Former guitarist for Patti Smith.

He and Patti Smith were inducted into the 2021 New Jersey Hall of Fame in the performing arts category.

His first band was The Vandals with who he made his performing debut in November 1964 at a fraternity at Rutgers University.

Has written for Fusion, Crawdaddy, Cavalier, Hit Parader and Rolling Stone.

Graduated from Rutgers University with degree in American history.

Father taught him to play the accordion when he was six years old.
