Over the past three months of Movie Poster of the Day, the two most popular posters by far were two beautiful (each in their own very distinct way) posters that I posted in memoriam of two dearly departed auteurs: Alan Resnais and Harold Ramis. And two other posters among the most popular (i.e. most liked or reblogged) were those posted in celebration of Philip Seymour Hoffman, including Chris Ware’s lovely 2007 design for The Savages, one of my favorite posters of last decade. So, if nothing else, Movie Poster of the Day has recorded the saddest losses of the year. (Not forgetting the adorable Swedish poster I posted for Shirley Temple which didn’t make the Top 20.)

Bavaria Film Partners, Trikita Entertainment and Lumiq Studios are teaming for an $8 million English-language film adaptation of Alexander Belyaev’s 1928 sci-fi novel "Amphibian Man" reports Screen Daily.
Using the latest underwater filming technology, the story will tell of a child who whose maverick scientist father performs a life-saving transplant on him - a set of shark gills.
The experiment is a success but it limits the young man's ability to interact with the world outside his ocean environment.
"Mongol" filmmaker Sergei Bodrov is penning the project which will be shot in Germany, Italy and Malta. However no cast or director is yet set.
Vladimir Chebotaryov and Gennadi Kazansky helmed a previous adaptation in 1962.

Russian film director Vladimir Chebotaryov was best known for co-directing the 1961 science-fiction/fantasy classic The Amphibian Man (aka Chelovek-Amfibiya) with Gennadi Kazansky in 1961. The tale of a doctor who performed surgery on his son to create a gilled mutant who could live on land and under the water, was one of the most popular Russian films of the decade.
Chebotaryov was born in Karachev, Russia, on August 16, 1921. he also helmed over a dozen action films during a career that lasted from the early 1960s to the early 1990s.
Chebotaryov died in Moscow on March 4, 2010, at age 88.
