Portrayed Nicely-Nicely Johnson in the original Broadway cast of Guys and Dolls and reprised his role in the movie Blanches colombes et vilains messieurs (1955).

Much loved guest presenter of the British children's TV show 'The Five O'clock Club'- when he left his successor was given a hard time of it by all concerned.

He once performed as Martin Wilson on the Major Bowes radio program, Original Amateur Hour, singing Comes Love, and impersonating celebrities such as Harry Richman, Jerry Colonna, Andy Devine, and Hugh Herbert. He stated that his current occupation was as a fruit sorter at a grocery store.

He did a song and dance number in the film Can Heironymus Merkin Ever Forget Mercy Humppe and Find True Happiness? but it was cut.
