Created the role of "Golde" opposite Zero Mostel's "Tevye" in the original Broadway production of "Fiddler on the Roof" in 1964. Despite the huge success of this production, she had a very bad time working with Mostel, she claimed, and said that the producers had had such a difficult time trying to curb his tendency to ad-lib new lines and business that when, quite early in the show's phenomenally long run, Mostel said that he wanted to leave the production, there were no attempts to dissuade him.
