Jason Voorhees is immortal, so it's only right that his story lives on through the Friday the 13th franchise, which includes classic films, television shows, fan-made graphics, and more. Horror lovers got their first dose of the fictional icon in 1980, and not during Halloween season. The film was released in May and turned the month of warm weather and outside festivities into bloody screams and a fear of visiting lakes with a group of people. It wasn't just any lake that Jason marked as his territory; it was Crystal Lake, which became the latest name for Peacock and A24'sFriday the 13th series. Creator, writer, and showrunner Brad Caleb Kane has been providing updates on his Instagram about the new show, and recently revealed where it stands.
In a recent Instagram post, Kane shared a picture of a production slate, also known as a clapperboard, with the caption, "Production Day 1. It's real,...

The "Mama's Boy" code name will make perfect sense to fans of the franchise. In the first Friday the 13th film, the killer was revealed to be Pamela Voorhees (Betsy Palmer), who turned to murder in her efforts to keep Camp Crystal Lake closed down.

On Halloween of 2022, it was announced that original Friday the 13th screenwriter Victor Miller – fresh off winning the U.S. copyright to the 1980 film after a lawsuit that stretched on for years – was teaming up with his lawyer Marc Toberoff, franchise rights holder Rob Barsamian, production company A24, the Peacock streaming service, and showrunner Bryan Fuller (whose credits include Hannibal and Pushing Daisies) to develop a new Friday the 13th streaming series called Crystal Lake. Things were moving ahead at a good pace, filming was expected to begin last July, but then the project hit a speed bump at the end of April with the firing of Fuller and his frequent collaborator Jim Danger Gray. The series, it’s amusing to note, is shooting under the faux title “Mama’s Boy,” which seems only fitting!

The episode currently in production is directed by Michael Lennox (“Derry Girls”), with the slate listing Maceo Bishop as the cinematographer.

Well horror fans, the day has finally come. After the pure production hell and misfortune that seemed to plague Crystal Lake, also known as the Friday the 13th prequel series, its showrunner, Brad Caleb Kane, took to social media to share an extraordinary update — filming has begun. Sharing an image of a clapperboard along with the title’s code name, Mama’s Boy, Kane wrote “Production Day 1. It’s real folks.” It sure is real, and we can’t wait to see the slasher back on screen after 16 — that’s right, sixteen — years. Also included on the board was the name of the episode’s director, Michael Lennox, who previously stood at the helm of television shows like Say Nothing and Derry Girls.

Per Deadline, newcomers joining the cast in lead roles include Devin Kessler (Godfather of Harlem), Cameron Scoggins (Shades of Blue), and Gwendolyn Sundstrom. They are respectively playing the roles of Briana Brooks, Dorf, and Grace, though no other details have been shared about their characters. Things got back on track in late August with the hiring of a new showrunner – and that person is Brad Caleb Kane, who also serves as co-showrunner and executive producer of It: Welcome to Derry,...

Production is officially ramping up for Crystal Lake, A24's Friday the 13th prequel TV series. Creator Caleb Kane teases horror and franchise fans with a BTS photo and a glaring Easter egg.
Showrunner Brad Caleb Kane offered a glimpse of the Voorhees residence in a sneak peek of Crystal Lake. They're early into production, and it looks like the house is being built in an indoor set; an overhead beam indicates "Pam Living Rm." an obvious reference to Pamela Voorhees, Friday the 13th's overarching antagonist. "Building a mystery," Kane wrote in the Instagram post, teasing the prequel show's premise. Fans expect the series would explore Pamela and Jason's early years, before Jason drowned at Camp Crystal Lake. That origin story expands the lore, and Kane teased as much about their treatment.

No one would blame you if you were beginning to feel fatigued by all of the attempts to cash in on existing IPs. There’s seemingly always a novel, film, series, or various other property getting the reboot, remake, prequel, sequel, requel, or spinoff treatment. Speaking of which, the brand-new trailer for It: Welcome to Derry just dropped. While you may be skeptical of this upcoming prequel series, this particular offshoot might be special. That much is apparent from the newly released trailer.
As some fans already know, this prequel series marks the return of It (2017) and It Chapter II (2019) director Andy Muschietti, as well as his sister and producing partner, Barbara Muschietti.
Welcome to Derry Will Feature the Return of Bill Skarsgård as Pennywise!

The first trailer for It: Welcome to Derry is here and ready to bring us back into the terrifying world of Stephen King!
For over 50 years, Stephen King has delighted in giving millions of readers nightmares. Arguably, his masterpiece of terror is It, the 1986 novel of a group of children hunted by a twisted demonic presence who takes the form of a clown named Pennywise. They later have to battle the clown and their own fears as adults.
The book was turned into a 1990 ABC mini-series and then a two-part film in 2017-18. Both movies were huge hits, so of course, a prequel series has arrived. The series opens in the small town of Derry in 1962 as a pack of kids start investigating the mysterious vanishing of children over the years, leading to a showdown with Pennywise (once more played by Bill Skarsgård).

It’s been a beat since Bill Skarsgård played Pennywise in both “It” films, but the “Nosferatu” and “The Crow” actor has wasted no time diving into the demonic terror of the Stephen King villain for prequel series “It: Welcome to Derry.”
The show is set in 1960s Derry, 27 years before Andy Muschietti’s 2017 “It: Chapter One” film. Filmmakers Andy Muschietti and Barbara Muschietti developed the drama series “Welcome to Derry” for television along with Jason Fuchs; Andy Muschietti is directing multiple episodes of the series.
The elusive logline reads: “Set in the world of Stephen King’s ‘It’ universe, ‘It: Welcome to Derry’ is based on King’s ‘It’ novel and expands the vision established by filmmaker Andy Muschietti in the feature films ‘It’ and ‘It: Chapter Two.'”

The teaser trailer for It: Welcome to Derry totally captures the tone of Stephen King’s bestseller. The nearly two-minute first official teaser shows the kids getting freaked out over the weird goings-on in Derry, and ends with a long-distance shot of Pennywise the Clown.
Bill Skarsgård reprises his role as the terrifying killer clown. The series also stars Taylour Paige, Jovan Adepo, Chris Chalk, James Remar, Stephen Rider, Madeleine Stowe, and Rudy Mancuso. The teaser didn’t include a premiere date, but did confirm it’s targeting a fall 2025 premiere.

Of all the monsters conjured up by Master of Horror Stephen King, Pennywise the Dancing Clown is easily the most iconic — and the most terrifying. An eldritch extraterrestrial that surfaces every 27 years to feast on the children of Derry, Maine, 'It' has haunted our dreams across King's original book, a Tim Curry led miniseries, and — in the shape of Bill Skarsgård — Andy Muschietti's It duology. Now, in It: Welcome To Derry, a prequel to Muschietti's two films, HBO Max is turning the clock back to 27 years before The Loser Club's first run-in with the killer clown to dig deeper into the origins of Pennywise and his reign of terror. Check out the creepy first trailer below:
"Anywhere but Derry." Missing children. Ignorant adults. A new band of kids on bikes. Faces smiling creepily at windows. And... there he is, Skarsgård's cosmic harlequin of horror, hanging out and mining aura in the sewers of Maine.

HBO Max unveiled the first trailer for It: Welcome to Derry, a nine-episode prequel series that dives into the origins of Stephen King’s most iconic villain, Pennywise the Clown. The teaser, released on May 20, offers a chilling glimpse of Bill Skarsgård reprising his role as the shape-shifting menace and establishes a 1962 setting in the small town of Derry, Maine, where unspeakable horrors are about to resurface.
The series, co-developed by Andy and Barbara Muschietti alongside writer-showrunner Jason Fuchs, transports viewers to the aftermath of the Black Spot nightclub massacre—a pivotal event in King’s novel interludes—in which a gathering place for Black residents is burned down, triggering Pennywise’s cyclical return every 27 years. Skarsgård embodies Pennywise once more, stalking sewers and shadowy streets as a new cast of characters begins to piece together Derry’s dark legacy.

The Home Box Office is about to get a lot creepier this fall. HBO has dropped the first teaser trailer for “It: Welcome to Derry,” the network’s highly-anticipated “It” prequel series. And it’s just as unsettling as everything else connected to this balloon-loving clown.
The teaser starts with a traumatized looking kid walking on the side of a highway. He’s soon picked up by a nice looking couple. “Now just tell us where home is and we’ll get you back to your parents safe and sound,” the man says.
“Anywhere but Derry,” the kid cryptically replies.
The teaser then cuts to Maine in 1962 where a new family has moved to Derry. It isn’t long before they realize there’s a darkness lurking underneath the cheery white picket fence exterior of this small town as there’s been a string of missing children. That’s when...

HBO Max is floating its first official teaser trailer for Welcome to Derry.
The upcoming series is a prequel to the hit It films which adapted Stephen King’s horror masterpiece about a small town in Maine that’s cursed by the presence of a shapeshifting killer clown which returns to murder a slew of children every 27 years.
The trailer (below) introduces a new cast of young characters living in Derry in the 1960s.
The show was developed by It filmmakers Andy Muschietti and Barbara Muschietti along with Jason Fuchs who serves as co-showrunner with Brad Caleb Kane. Andy Muschietti directed four of the season’s nine episodes.
Bill Skarsgård has returned to play Pennywise the Dancing Clown, a villain that King fans agreed the actor embodied to perfection, after initially turning down the chance to continue the character. In an interview earlier this year, Skarsgård assured the TV version is “hardcore.

HBO Max has just unleashed the first trailer for It: Welcome to Derry (via FearHQ.com), but why does it feel so...familiar? While the It and It Chapter Two movies shifted the action from the 1950s and 1980s to the 1980s and 2010s, this story takes place in the 1960s and feels more in line with Stephen King's original novel.
However, with the spotlight once again put on a group of kids attempting to stop Pennywise the Clown's reign of terror, it's hard not to wonder what this TV series will bring to the table that It fans haven't already seen.
It looks suitably creepy and scary, though, and Bill Skarsgård's demented killer clown makes its presence felt in the closing moments of this teaser trailer. Pennywise doesn't look too different, as best as we can tell, but is mostly being kept hidden in shadow for now.

It: Welcome to Derry will come out later this year on HBO, we can expect the release date to be in Fall, and will also be available to stream on Max. It takes place in the same world as the It movies and expands the story created in the films It and It Chapter Two.

HBO has just dropped a trailer teaser for It: Welcome to Derry (via FearHQ.com), confirming that the first full teaser will be released tomorrow. It doesn't reveal much, but we see a woman with a creepy smile watching a familiar red balloon outside, someone thrashing about in water, and a glimpse into the drains where Pennywise the Clown resides.
Pennywise himself is absent, though we'd bet on the killer clown being put front and centre in the full teaser. After all, it's not like this will be the first time we've seen...it...though we'd bet on him getting a slight redesign.
The series, from Warner Bros. Television and developed for television by filmmakers Andy Muschietti and Barbara Muschietti and Jason Fuchs (Wonder Woman), will debut on HBO later this year and will also be available to stream on Max. Muschietti will direct four episodes of the nine-episode series.

To mark the 45th anniversary of the classic slasher franchise, Adweek.com has unveiled a first look at the new take on Jason, who will soon return to our screens to resume his mission to make horny camp councillors' lives a living hell.

FX legend Greg Nicotero (The Walking Dead) had a hand in the redesign, which really doesn't stray very far from the character's original look at all. Jason seems to have slimmed down a little,...

It's the franchise's 45th anniversary, meaning it's been 45 years since the original 1980 movie first introduced us to Camp Crystal Lake and the unforgettable horror legend, Jason Voorhees.
What started as a modest, low-budget slasher quickly exploded into a full-blown pop culture juggernaut, spanning 12 films, inspiring countless Halloween costumes, video games, comic books, merchandise, and giving rise to one of the most iconic figures in horror movie history.
