Star Wars Unveils ‘The Ninth Jedi’ Anime Series with First Images for 2026 Disney+ Debut

I’m thrilled to share some exciting news from the galaxy far, far away. A brand-new anime series, ‘Star Wars: Visions Presents – The Ninth Jedi,’ is set to land on Disney+ in 2026.

This project expands on a beloved short from the ‘Star Wars: Visions’ anthology, and we’ve got our first glimpse of what’s in store.

The series builds on the 2021 ‘The Ninth Jedi’ short, crafted by Production I.G. and directed by Kenji Kamiyama. That story followed Lah Kara, a young woman with Force sensitivity, and her father, Lah Zhima, a skilled lightsaber-smith.

Set after the events of ‘Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker,’ it showed a galaxy where the Jedi Order had faded into legend. Margrave Juro, a ruler on the Outer Rim planet Hy Izlan, aimed to revive the Jedi by forging new lightsabers with kyber crystals.

Lucasfilm Reveals ‘The Ninth Jedi’ Series at Star Wars Celebration in Tokyo

Lucasfilm leaders had more surprises on the final day of the three-day Star Wars Celebration fan event in Tokyo. A new batch of nine “Star Wars: Visions” shorts will debut Oct. 29 on Disney+, and also upcoming is the longform series “The Ninth Jedi,” a spinoff of an earlier “Visions” short, from writer-director Kenji Kamiyama.

“The Ninth Jedi” series was announced with fanfare at the event by James Waugh, Lucasfilm’s senior VP of franchise content and dtrategy at Lucasfilm. He called Kamiyama to the stage, “who thanked the audience for being so supportive and enthusiastic about the adventures of Kara and Juro in ‘The Ninth Jedi’ and the upcoming ‘Child of Hope,’ ” according to Disney’s StarWars.com official fan site.

“He then announced that fans will watch Kara’s journey continue to unfold in an all-new spinoff called “Star Wars: Visions Presents – The Ninth Jedi,’ ” the site stated.

‘Star Wars: Visions’: Disney+ Unveils Trailer; Lucy Liu, Neil Patrick Harris Among Voice Cast

Disney+ has released the trailer and unveiled the Japanese and English dub voice casts for Star Wars: Visions, its upcoming anthology series from Lucasfilm composed of short films centered on the Star Wars universe. The series launches September 22 on Disney+. Watch the trailer above.

Lucy Liu, Neil Patrick Harris, George Takei, Alison Brie and Joseph Gordon-Levitt are among the English voice cast for the series that tells new Star Wars stories through the singular style and tradition of Japanese anime.

Disney+ has released trailers, in both Japanese and with English dubbing, for Star Wars: Visions, an anthology series from Lucasfilm that tells new stories in the style and tradition of Japanese anime.

The nine-part series will be released in its entirety on Wednesday, Sept. 22; the English-dubbed trailer appears above, the Japanese-language trailer is embedded down below.
