Biography

    • M.J. Kang was born in Seoul, Korea, and immigrated to Toronto, Canada, with her parents and two older sisters. She is a third-degree taekwondo black belt and has coached many sparring competitions. Her parents helped found the Heritage Language Program as part of the Toronto Board of Education, which has grown to teach over sixty languages to students for free. She was raised to love all her identities and support others in loving theirs. She has been a series regular and has recurring roles on several television shows, including Star Wars: Skeleton Crew. Her favorite roles have been opposite Jude Law, Philip Seymour Hoffman, and Maury Chaykin. She was nominated for a Dora Mavor Moore Award - Toronto's professional theater award and is the first Korean-Canadian playwright to be produced professionally in Canada. Her first love is theater, and she has acted on the New York, London, Berkeley, Toronto, Montreal, and Winnipeg stages in many award-winning shows. She is a dual Canadian and American citizen and loves spending time on both coasts.
