    • Brenda Michiko Kamino (born November 6, 1951) is a Canadian actress, teacher, writer, director and painter. She is best known as Dot Yasuda in the TV series Carter (2018), The Glass Castle (2017) starring Brie Larson, and the web series Warigami(2018). Over the past forty years her television appearances number in the hundreds, notably Lost Girl, Degrassi: The Next Generation, Side Effects, recurring roles in Train 48, Kung Fu: The Legend Continues, children's shows Fred Penner's Place and Mr. Dressup; and pilots Befriend and Betray, Ultra and Hotel Babylon.

      Brenda has appeared at major theatres across Canada including Alberta Theatre Projects, Prairie Theatre Exchange, Theatre Passe Muraille, Theatre Aquarius, The Royal Alex, the National Arts Centre and a season at the Shaw Festival.

    • Her very first television performance was as an extra in CBC's (1977) Bethune, starring Donald Sutherland.

      Brenda has performed on many of Canada's best-known stages including a season at the (1996) Shaw Festival's Rashomon and Simpleton of the Unexpected Isles, the ground breaking (1983) Yellow Fever by R.A. Shiomi and the Dora nominated (1992) Naomi's Road for Young Peoples Theatre.

      She has appeared in such varied plays as M Butterfly (1993) and (2004) suicide notes through to original comedies (2013) Ching Chong Chinaman and (1995) Mom, Dad, I'm Living with a White Girl.

      Her favourite theatre role is Queenie the aging prostitute-cum-bag lady with bound feet in (1987) Bachelor Man for Theatre Passe Muraille in Toronto, but her most challenging role was the solo performance in (2015) Bystanders created and directed by the Obie award winning theatre creator David Levine.

  • A champion of actors from diverse backgrounds, she has received Canadian Actors' Equity's Larry McCance Award for her tireless service to its membership and the theatre community.
  • Her aunt, the late Yuki Yoshida was an Oscar Winner for producing I'll Find a Way, part of the Children of Canada series, for the National Film Board of Canada's Studio D, the women's studio, responsible for winning more Oscars for Canada than any other producing studio.
  • Brenda started acting in a high school in Antigone. She performed at McMaster University with Martin Short, Eugene Levy and Dave Thomas in the original Frankenstein, a Rock Musical.
  • Brenda produces theatre with award-winning playwright, director and actor Andrew Moodie with their company Renaissance Theatre, dedicated to finding scripts that deserve a second chance at life in the Canadian Theatre Scene.
