Biography

    • Kahn's career in music began when played saxophone, clarinet and violin in the orchestras of Glenn Lee, Pinky Tomlin, the Dorseys, Clyde McCoy and others.

      Later he studied music composition in California later becoming a composer/arranger and writing background music for movies and television. He was music supervisor for Filmways, Republic, and Universal Studios and supervised the music of such shows as The Beverly Hillbillies, Green Acres, Petticoat Junction, Simon & Simon, Addams Family, and wrote the theme music for Leave it to Beaver, and Mike Hammer. He also arranged the music for Alfred Hitchcock Presents and edited the music for National Lampoon's Animal House, among many others.

      He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-three years, Anna Mae Kahn, to cancer in 1995

  • Best known for writing the catchy theme song for Leave It to Beaver (1957).
  • Early career was playing saxophone and singing with touring big bands.
  • Served in the Army Air Force during WWII and then moved to Hollywood to work as a music arranger/orchestrator/scorer for Republic Studios and Filmways TV.
  • Both he, as composer of the Leave It To Beaver theme song, and Bob LeMond, as announcer for Leave It To Beaver, died the same year, 2008.
