The silent French film Au Bonheur Des Dames (1930 – aka Ladies’ Paradise) screens Saturday May 6th at 11am at The St. Louis Art Museum (Forest Park, 1 Fine Arts Dr, St. Louis, Mo). The film will be accompanied by Elsie Parker and The Poor People of Paris. Tickets for this event are $15 general admission and $10 for museum members. Tickets can be purchased in advance from Metrotix or by calling 314.534.1111.

Julien Duvivier’s final silent film is a modern retelling of Emile Zola’s panoramic chronicle of mid-19th-century Parisian society, centering on a small fabric shop struggling to survive in the shadow of a luxury department store. Pabst, the film captures the rhythms of urban life and creates a stinging portrait of capitalist ruthlessness, class tensions, and sexual competition. Scott Foundas in the Village Voice calls the film “an orgy of pure cinema,...

Millar to bring Whitfield Studios back
LONDON -- Veteran music producer Robin Millar said Monday that he has purchased Sony Music Studios in central London and will change its name back to the original Whitfield Street Studios. Millar, who has produced such artists as Sade, Men at Work, Big Country and France's Patricia Kaas, paid £3 million ($5.6 million) for the studio, sources said. Built in 1965 by CBS and the site of recordings by Iggy Pop, the Clash, Madonna and R.E.M., Whitfield was bought in 2000 by Sony, which has recently scaled down its operations. Located close to London's West End, Whitfield has three studios and eight mastering suites, with room for a full orchestra in its Studio One.

Jeremy Iron's Intimate Clinches
Jeremy Irons
Oscar-winner Jeremy Irons is getting himself in more trouble with his wife after appearing in a provocative photo shoot with French star Patricia Kaas. The pair, who star together in the movie And Now Ladies And Gentlemen, feature in saucy poses together in which Kass is naked for the film's publicity shock. These pictures come hot on the heels of the actors being spotted kissing outside a London club in July. He told me his wife is used to this kind of thing." Irons has been married for 20 years to Irish actress Sinéad Cusack. He says, "It can be a very tumultuous marriage. It has its good days and its bad days. But all marriages are the same - desperately difficult."...
