    Having appeared onstage in various productions of "Dracula" in the role of Renfield over 1,000 times by his estimation, Mr. Jukes campaigned heavily to perform the part in the 1931 film version as well, ultimately losing out to Dwight Frye. As a result, publicity photos of Jukes in character as Renfield are frequently mistaken for - and published as -- photographs of Frye.
