Stop what you're doing, fantasy fans! A 2025 action fantasy flick based on one of George R.R. Martin's short stories is now available to stream on Netflix, and it takes viewers on a thrilling post-apocalyptic adventure full of magic, monsters, and high-stakes quests that you won’t want to miss.
The film is titled In the Lost Lands, and it was released in theaters in the United States back in March 2025. On July 11, Hulu added the action fantasy movie to its platform. Now, Netflix has finally got its hands on this fantasy epic. However, we want to clarify that this film is not streaming on Netflix worldwide. It’s currently only available in the UK and Ireland, so viewers in other regions may need to wait or use alternative platforms to watch.

Milla Jovovich tells us about her new action adventure, In The Lost Lands, adapting George Rr Martin, and giving the middle finger to critics.
Against a parched landscape, two figures emerge from the shimmering haze. One is a grizzled bounty hunter; the other a mysterious woman with a dark past. Neither quite trusts the other, but they’re united by a potentially deadly mission in hostile territory. Oh, and the bounty hunter has a pet snake with two heads. And the mysterious woman’s a witch.
This is In The Lost Lands, the latest movie from director and co-writer Paul Ws Anderson and Milla Jovovich – actor, action star, and Anderson’s long-time wife. Like their earlier movies together – most notably the run of Resident Evil films they made between 2002 and 2016 – it’s a true collision of genres. Spaghetti western meets post-apocalyptic horror; dark fantasy rubs up against two-fisted, pistol-firing Hong Kong action.

There’s a wave of new and intelligent life at the indie box office this weekend post-Academy Awards after the traditionally slow, slow period for new openings. There have been a smattering of interesting films (Universal Language for one) but things have absolutely picked up with a George R.R. Martin short story on screen, a nursing home creep-out starring John Lithgow and Geoffrey Rush, the latest Atom Egoyan film, a duo that landed really well at Cannes, a Bruno Dumont sci-fi, a Bruce Labruce sex romp, an Italian box office hit and more.

Paul W.S. Anderson, known for directing the Resident Evil film series and the cult classic sci-fi horror Event Horizon, is stepping into new territory with his latest project, In the Lost Lands. This fantasy-action film is adapted from a 1982 short story by Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin.
Anderson described the film as an “adult fairy tale,” full of “bone-crunching violence” and “horrific surprises.” He explains that this movie is unlike anything he has done before, especially in terms of its look and tone. “It’s very different to anything I’ve done before,” Anderson says. “I really wanted to embrace the mythic fairy tale quality of it, so it’s an R-rated fairy tale, that’s for sure.”

Given the phenomenal success of “Game of Thrones,” which began broadcasting 14 years ago, it’s somewhat surprising that “In the Lost Lands” represents only the second time author George R.R. Martin’s work has been adapted for the big screen (the other being 1987’s low-budget sci-fi horror “Nightflyers”). Fans of that cable series and its spinoffs shouldn’t expect the same scale or intricacy of epic storytelling from this feature, which is taken from a short story. But on its own terms, the ninth collaboration between director Paul W.S. Anderson and star Milla Jovovich is perfectly serviceable popcorn fantasy entertainment — an attractive, action-packed ride, making up for in fun what it lacks in depth.
A begrimed Dave Bautista as mercenary drifter Boyce begins relating this “tale of magic and witches, of quests and of monsters, of good and of evil” in direct camera address. Actually, that description is a bit grandiose for what ensues,...

The latest attempt at bringing the works of Game of Thrones creator George R.R. Martin to the screen has sadly found itself wanting. Starring former MCU star Dave Bautista and Resident Evil lead Milla Jovovich, the epic action fantasy movie In the Lost Lands hails from Mortal Kombat and Monster Hunter director Paul W. S. At the center of Paul W.S. Anderson’s adaptation of George R.R. Martin’s short story “In the Lost Lands” is Gray Alys (Milla Jovovich), a witch whose business dealings are known to end in ironic tragedy. Nevertheless, she’s tasked to obtain the gift of transforming into a werewolf for the queen (Amara Okereke) of a city built into a mountain, and to do so, Gray Alys contracts the hunter Boyce (Dave Bautista) to take her into the titular realm.
Anyone who’s seen his Resident Evil films and adaptations of Monster Hunter and The Three Musketeers knows that Anderson doesn’t place stock in fidelity to his source material. For one, there’s nothing in Martin’s story to suggest the post-apocalyptic Mad Max-esque world that the film portrays, a wasteland of skeletal ironwork blasted into shades of brown and gray. There are bloodthirsty church agents here who wear old-timey medieval robes,...

"Her power grows stronger by the day." Vertical has revealed the first official trailer for a new fantasy action adventure movie called In the Lost Lands, a collaboration between filmmaker Paul W.S. She's joined by the mysterious hunter Boyce, fighting against dark creatures and merciless enemies, roaming an eerie and dangerous world. So it's climate change future but also has fantastical creatures galore? There isn't a dearth of movies that redefined their genres; it's a considerably common phenomenon due to the cyclical nature of popular culture. The same set of tropes goes through the phases of being reclaimed from their past rejection, recontextualized for the current age, overused to exhaustion, and then rejected for the previous set of tropes to make a return. This is how we have movies that reinvigorated dying genres, either by subverting prevalent tropes at the time or by reintroducing tropes previously lost to overuse that feel refreshing at that point in time.
Of course, some movies can't be put into one genre because they're that different, but genre films particularly go through a reinvention every few years with the introduction of a new unique perspective. The switch in perspective can take the form of narrative structure, visual conventions, or even characterization. While the last is a rarer circumstance,...

Getting new or completed material from George R.R. Martin seems to be a tall order these days. But thankfully, his back-catalog of writing is a treasure trove that Paul W.S. Anderson is dipping into for his latest project with spouse and long-time collaborator Milla Jovovich, and first-time collaborator/not spouse Dave Bautista. Their fantasy epic In Lost Lands is slated to hit theaters February 25th, 2025, and Martin shared a new image, which you can see below, on his blog.

Playwright, author, screenwriter, and director Helene Hegemann has said (through her publisher) that, “There’s no such thing as originality anyway, just authenticity.” The words were spoken after her debut novel Axolotl Roadkill earned critical praise, a spot as a finalist for a major book award, and multiple, potentially damning plagiarism claims. Hegemann was seventeen when it published and admitted to the cribbing as soon as it was brought to light. She blamed her generation’s penchant for mixing and sampling, for taking what’s bouncing around the æther and making it her own with newfound honesty and meaning. Say what you will, the book sold and kept selling. This German phenom hit upon the zeitgeist with her tale of drug-addled excess and mental instability — in subject matter and process.

After revealing at Comic-Con last month that he wants to return as the Daywalker in Blade 4, The New York Daily News reveals that Wesley Snipes is now set to return for the sequel.
Sources claim his comeback is "looking good" after serving nearly three years in a federal prison for tax evasion, and that he will make $3 million for the sequel, along with an undisclosed cut of the profits.
Wesley Snipes starred as the title character in 1998's Blade, 2002's Blade 2 and 2004's Blade: Trinity, which were all distributed by New Line Cinema. Marvel Studios reacquired the rights to Blade in May 2013, and the studio announced later that month that a new Blade movie is being developed.
Neither Blade 4 nor the casting of Wesley Snipes has been announced by Disney and Marvel Studios. The film doesn't currently have a screenwriter or director attached, but we'll keep you posted as soon as more information comes in.

Wesley Snipes headed down to San Diego this weekend to promote his action-packed sequel The Expendables 3 at Comic-Con 2014. In two separate interviews, the actor addresses the possibility of reprising one of his most iconic roles, the vampire-killer Blade.
While it doesn't seem that any definitive plans are in place yet, the actor told MTV that he would be open to returning for Blade 4.
"I'd be open to it. I think we've got some stones left unturned and there's some latitude left for us to build on and I'd love to get back in the suit again and do some things I've learned how to do now that I didn't know how to do then. In addition to their growing Marvel Phase Three slate, which includes director Edgar Wright's Ant-Man, the studio is also developing feature projects for Ms. Marvel and a Blade reboot. Marvel also has plans for Doctor Strange, Iron Fist, Black Panther, and Runaways, but it isn't known if these are being developed for Phase Three or future Phases.
Back in October, we reported that Marvel was eyeing actresses Emily Blunt and Ruth Wilson to play Ms. Marvel in the Phase Two sequel The Avengers 2, but this is the first we're hearing of a stand-alone Ms. Marvel project. Carol Danvers (a.k.a. Ms. Marvel) first appeared in an 1968 issue of Marvel Super-Heroes as a U.S. Air Force member. David Fincher’s remake of “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” (based on the first book by the late Stieg Larsson) is supposed to be delivering a proper trailer sometime this week, but as the saying goes, the best laid plans of mice and men, etc. Anyways, after the Red Band Trailer surfaced over the weekend, here’s a safe for work version. It’s essentially the same trailer, minus the glimpses of nudity and a bit of sex featured in the Red Band. The film stars Daniel Craig, Rooney Mara, Stellan Skarsgård, Robin Wright, Joely Richardson, Steven Berkoff, Geraldine James, and Arly Jover. The girl and her tattoo shows up in theaters December 21, 2011.

High time to round up the films at this year's Cannes Film Festival that never saw entries of their own and send them on their way. Today: Un Certain Regard.
"Bakur Bakuradze's The Hunter seems like a ficticious version of Raymond Depardon's Modern Life, a trilogy on farming that was screened in Cannes in 2008," finds Moritz Pfeifer, who also interviews the director for the East European Film Bulletin. Clearly, Bakuradze wants to depict an alternative world, and the spirit of his film is more utopian than its hyper-realistic images suggest."
