Six characters from The Wheel of Time book series are already confirmed to appear in season 2 of the Amazon series. The first season alone introduced dozens of characters from Robert Jordan’s novels, but in reality, it only brought in a portion of the books’ cast. As expected, Wheel of Time season 2 will build on what season 1 started.
Wheel of Time is known as a story that encompasses an extremely long list of characters. For that reason, there was no expectation for season 1 to introduce every key player. In fact, a few may be left out altogether. As for the rest, they’ll likely make their debuts gradually, not unlike how Jordan brought them into the fold in the books. Since it’s no secret that Wheel of Time season 2 is adapting parts of the second and third books in the series, several of the characters relevant to those stories are expected to be used.

One of the new characters joining The Wheel of Time season 2 means the series is finally about to explain Perrin's powers. In season 1 of the Amazon series, Marcus Rutherford's Perrin Aybara developed mysterious abilities tied to the wolves in Wheel of Time's world. However, the show has yet to offer an explanation for what these abilities actually are or why he suddenly has them.
Of course, the nature of Perrin's powers isn't a secret in the source material. In fact, Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time books explained them as early as the first book, The Eye of the World. Perrin is a Wolfbrother, a term that describes people who can communicate telepathically with wolves. As a result of this ability, wolves treat Wolfbrothers as members of their pack and fight by their side when they're in danger, hence why they came to Perrin's aid when the Children...

The Wheel of Time season 1 made a number of important changes to Robert Jordan’s book The Eye of the World, most notably by focusing much more attention on the various plots and schemes of the Aes Sedai. This is in marked contrast to the novel, which focuses almost exclusively on the adventures of Rand al’Thor, the young man fated to be the Dragon Reborn. As a result, viewers get a much more nuanced understanding of how politics and power work in this fantasy world, especially as the all-female Aes Sedai are the only ones who can safely use the One Power.
During the middle few episodes of The Wheel of Time season 1, the series demonstrates the remarkable complexity of Aes Sedai politics. The Wheel of Time's various Ajahs–Red, Blue, White, Brown, Green, Grey, and Yellow–not only have widely diverging views on what the One Power should be used for,...

Warning: Spoilers for Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time novelsBefore the debut of the Prime Video series, Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson's epically long Wheel of Time novels found life in 1990. Considering how the 2021 series is faithfully adapts the novels, it is not surprising to find similarities with the tales and characters from the Middle Earth. Jordan already drew comparisons with Tolkien in his lifetime, a parallel he probably never shied away from as there are some deliberate namedrops and references to the latter's voluminous trilogy throughout his own writing.
In season 1 of the show, which is adapted from the first book, The Eye of the World, the central clash between forces of good and evil comes off as the obvious common aspect. The prophecy of finding the Dragon Reborn is again comparable to the mythos of the One Ring, with both Rand al'Thor and Frodo Baggins qualifying for the "chosen one" archetype.

A timeline has been established for The Wheel of Time season 3, thus providing a clear blueprint for everything that needs to happen before season 2 can end. According to Wheel of Time showrunner Rafe Judkins, the show's third season will adapt The Shadow Rising, the fourth book in Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series. With that being the case, the show will have quite a lot to cover before it can move on to season 3.
Comments from the showrunner and the progression of the story make it clear that Amazon never intended for Wheel of Time to be a season-per-book adaptation. Season 1 chronicled most of the main group's journey from The Eye of the World, but has yet to dive into a few key developments from the first book. It also already delved into a few important moments from the second book, The Great Hunt, but the bulk of its story has yet to occur.

William Wyler’s Dead End made its screen debut on Aug. 27, 1937. The film adaptation of Sidney Kingsley’s Broadway play starred Sylvia Sidney and Joel McCrea, and featured Humphrey Bogart in third billing. But the movie was stolen from them all by a gang of upstart juvenile delinquents, who nicked audience attention like a fancy watch mugged off a clueless rich brat.
Billy Halop, Huntz Hall, Gabe Dell, Bobby Jordan, Bernard Punsly, and Leo Gorcey were the original teen menaces who terrorized theatergoers when the play opened on Oct. 28, 1935. Directed by the playwright, Dead End ran for 684 performances, and is still the longest-running play in the Belasco Theater’s history. First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt saw it three times.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power star Ismael Cruz Córdova hopes that positive representation and diverse casting will increase in season 2 of the fantasy show. Based on the works of J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-earth, The Rings of Power delves into the Second Age of the fantasy world, providing viewers a look into the rise of the Dark Lord Sauron thousands of years before the events of The Lord of the Rings. The series is well-known for its diverse casting, with people of color in prominent roles, such as Córdova's role as the Elf archer Arondir. While the casting choices have been attacked through racist responses online, fans of the series have praised it for its presentation of positive representation.

By making some major changes to the character of Moiraine, as well as the source material's chronology, Amazon's The Wheel of Time season 2 can avoid an issue that plagued HBO's Game of Thrones. During its early run, Game of Thrones was hailed as a game-changer in the high-fantasy sub-genre, boasting incredibly detailed and well-realized characters in addition to spectacular set-pieces. However, later seasons' suffered by mishandling characters, leaving them by the wayside before returning them to center stage with little explanation for their absence. By changing Moiraine's prospective arc ahead of season 2, The Wheel of Time looks set to avoid this problem.
Despite hardly being in the second of the original Wheel of Time book series, The Great Hunt, Rosamund Pike's Moiraine looks set to play a pivotal role in the Amazon adaptation. Given her prominence in season 1, as well as Pike's status as a performer, this is perhaps an unsurprising change.

Audiences awaiting more of Amazon’s The Wheel of Time television show may not be aware of another small-screen offering based on the books, a terrible Wheel of Time movie-come-pilot that most book fans and Robert Jordan’s team panned upon its release in 2015. The Wheel of Time, a massive epic fantasy series spanning 14 novels, a prequel novella, two reference guides, and even a few short stories, has amassed a significant following since the release of the first book, The Eye of the World, in 1990. Amazon’s adaptation has its critics, but the complaints about The Wheel of Time can’t hold a candle to the vitriol aimed at its predecessor.
Red Eagle Entertainment released a shoddy pilot in 2015 called Winter Dragon to retain their film rights to The Wheel of Time. The pilot aired during an infomercial timeslot in the middle of the night with no promotion, surprising fans...

Perrin’s power requires a deeper examination on screen in Amazon Prime’s Wheel of Time, which can avoid similar mistakes that HBO’s Game of Thrones made. Season 1 revealed that Perrin is a wolfbrother, which is unlike any ordinary human in the Robert Jordan fantasy saga. On a similar note, Game of Thrones also tiptoed around the Stark family’s ties with their own direwolves, which extended beyond just having them as mere pets or protectors. However, Wheel of Time must do a better job of explaining Perrin's connection with wolves than Game of Thrones did with the Starks.
Perrin as a wolfbrother appears more nuanced in the first season of the Wheel of Time. Perrin's connection with wild wolves, his strength, and a brief glimpse of his yellow eyes before killing Eamon Valda have all been hints at Perrin's wolfbrother powers, but there is more to it than that.

The Wheel of Time's showrunner has revealed a missed Easter egg on the first season's pilot episode. Developed by Rafe Judkins and based on the book series of the same name by Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson, the series stars Rosamund Pike as Moriaine Damodred, a member of the Aes Sedai. The Aes Sedai are a group of magical women looking for the Dragon Reborn, a powerful entity who will either save or destroy the world.
The Wheel of Time season 1 premiered on Amazon Prime Video in November 2021, and has already had two more seasons underway. Its first episode, "Leavetaking," introduced fans to the world of Jordan and Sanderson's fantasy novel series, and the character of Moiriane Damodred. The episode was well-received by both critics and fans, and had many hidden easter eggs on the expanded world of The Wheel of Time that audience members missed when it premiered.

Prime Video’s panel for The Wheel of Time held on October 7, 2022 at the New York Comic Con featured plenty of interesting tidbits on season two. George R.R. Martin has given the world a series of books that captivated us. The "A Song of Ice and Fire" novels inspired the HBO series "Game of Thrones," and his 2018 prequel book "Fire and Blood" has spawned the upcoming series "House of the Dragon," set 200 years before the first series. It's a complex world, full of rich characters, dark dealings, power-mad rulers, and brave souls fighting for their freedom, and often, their lives.
The first book came out in 1996, and the fifth in 2011. As this is supposed to be a seven book series, you can understand that many fans are anxious for the sixth book after 11 years of waiting. Martin has been busy with public appearances, his work on both of the HBO series, and writing the prequel, and on his website, he has given different sorts of updates on the state of the sixth book, with his self-imposed deadlines passing again and again.

“The Lord of the Rings” movie trilogy became one of the most popular movie trilogies ever and one with the most accolades. All the world knows the story of this epic drama from Middle-earth. The trilogy won a staggering seventeen Oscars and had thirteen other nominations. Now, an Amazon Prime Video series based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s work is coming out on a huge budget, so we wonder, can “Lotr: The Rings Of Power” succeed like the trilogy?
It’s doubtful that “Lotr: The Rings of Power” will have similar success as the trilogy. The cast members are not as well-known, and the characters are different, so nostalgic fans might miss the old crew. Still, it has a colossal budget and great source material, so it might surprise us all.

Enough sprawling fantasy epics have been adapted for film and TV in the past 20 years that the genre has developed a set of conventional sights and sounds. The music, for example, has its own sense of sprawl, with sweeping orchestral and choral arrangements whose influence traces back to Tolkien — or, in this case, Howard Shore’s Wagnerian opus for the Peter Jackson “Lord of the Rings” films. When approaching Amazon Prime Video’s take on “The Wheel Of Time,” composer Lorne Balfe and and showrunner Rafe Judkins were determined to buck convention. Balfe created distinctly different sounds that aren’t necessarily concerned with making the world introduced in Robert Jordan’s bestselling novels feel vast and operatic. But he did create a lot of them.

Eugene Francis, an actor, writer and longtime SAG Foundation board member who broke into show business in 1940 as one of the East Side Kids, has died. He was 100.
Francis played Algernon “Algy” Wilkes alongside Leo Gorcey and Bobby Jordan in the 1940 films Boys of the City, That Gang of Mine and Pride of the Bowery and 1941’s Flying Wild. He later guested on a few TV shows and wrote for series including Justice, Appointment with Adventure, The Loretta Young Show, The George Sanders Mystery Theater and Matinee Theatre.

So fantasy, after all, is not just for geeks. With the blockbuster that has been the HBO adaptation of George R.R Martin’s fantasy series, A Song of Ice and Fire, suddenly the world of elves, magic and dragons are cool. Sexy, even.
A Game of Thrones may have done the impossible; improved upon an already excellent series of books. So often the most exquisitely detailed adaptations fall short of reader’s expectations, particularly in the fantasy genre. But my own version of Westeros wasn’t that far different to HBO’s- and I think the sex scenes are even better in the TV series.
I remember reading A Game of Thrones some five years ago now. I liked but didn’t love the books, and arduously made my way through the series in a relatively noncommittal way. I was on A Feast For Crows by the time the TV show came out.

With The Hobbit films guaranteed to make a fortune at the box office and Game of Thrones busy putting the ‘fun’ back in ‘horrifyingly dysfunctional,’ we’re guaranteed to see some more of our favourite fantasy novels converted to the big screen in the forthcoming years. Now these things can go horribly wrong (remember Eragon?, Of course you don’t) but there are plenty of great series’ that deserve the Hollywood treatment.
Note: This article will focus on the series or standalone books that have a chance of being a good film. As much as I’d like to see Robert Jordan’s The Wheel of Time books (battle-nuns throwing fireballs at eyeless shadowmen) and R. Scott Bakker’s The Prince of Nothing series (sociopath messiah co-opts Holy War to commit patricide) made into films, you’d need a serious character-ectomy and a glossary in your popcorn.

The winter is coming… this spring. Anticipation for the third season of HBO’s enormously popular fantasy series, Game of Thrones began right at the season two’s end, and now the network has announced the season three premiere date with a cunning teaser poster via their Facebook page. Check it out below.
We know that the upcoming 10-episode season will cover roughly the first half of George R.R. Martin’s third book in the “Song of Ice and Fire” series, A Storm of Swords, and Irish actor Ciaran Hinds (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy) portrays the anxious-to-see-him Mance Rayder (aka “The King Beyond the Wall”).
Oooh I’m so happy to return back into the Game of Thrones world, so March 31st, 2013 can’t get here soon enough – but I think it just might pass sooner than I’d think, since I have lots of good stuff to read and...

Like someone who underestimated how much space there was left in the margin, Lionsgate has just said “eh, screw it” and crammed the rest of their casting news in at the bottom. After months of slowly and methodically revealing the actors in their highly anticipated sequel, the studio has added eleven new faces to their marketing team’s Facebook trading card/advent calendar doohicky.
While most of them probably won’t have a line longer than “Whu–?” in the movie, this final bit of news rounds out the list of tributes participating in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire’s murder-a-thon.

The long list of new castmates for "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" is now finally complete.
Lionsgate unleashed the names of the last remaining tributes joining the fold for supporting roles in "Catching Fire" today, filling in the remaining spaces in Districts 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 with actors Justin Hix, Megan Hayes, James Logan, Ivette Li-Sanchez, Bobby Jordan (Blight), John Casino (Woof), Elena Sanchez (Cecelia), Daniel Bernhardt, Marian Greene, Jackson Spidell and Tiffany Waxler.
The near-dozen new faces are mostly all relative newcomers to the game, but they'll take arms with the best of 'em for the "Hunger Games" sequel, and at least one of the to-be tributes is openly stoked at the prospect. For me, the biggest issue I had with Justin Cronin’s apocalyptic novel, The Passage, was I could not get emotionally attached to any of the characters, which is the basic premise for any novel. He starts out with a good idea, and spends 250 pages setting it all up, and then just as the novel appears to really kick in, it falls off a massive cliff and only recovers –somewhat – towards the latter half. What’s in between is nothing but bland, undefined characters –mostly like the red shirt security guards on the original run of Star Trek – who you really can feel nothing for.
The Passage begins around 2018, and lays the ground work for what later would be a post-apocalyptic world that is overrun by vampire-like beings that are infected by a highly contagious virus (once again, the military is blamed for it). What begins as a project (Noah,...
