Jenny Jones

Trivia

Jenny Jones

Edit
  • Jones established "Jenny's Heroes," a program where during 2008, through The Jenny Jones Foundation, she committed a million dollars of her own money to be given to individuals who use it to improve their communities. In 2009, Jones committed another million dollars for grants to people who submitted the best ideas on how they would use the funds to make a difference in others' lives. Thousands of people continued to apply online and Jones read every application herself, personally selecting the final recipient of each grant.
  • Jenny's biography, "Jenny Jones: My Story" was published in 1997 with 100% of Jenny's profits going to breast cancer research.
  • Was the first female comic to win on Star Search (1983) in 1986.
  • Born in Palestine to parents of Polish descent, Jenny's family emigrated to Canada in 1946.
  • Appeared on Match Game 73 (1973) as a contestant, where she won $5,000.
  • Speaks Polish fluently.
  • Left home in London, Ontario, at age 17 to go on the road with a band.
  • In 2006, Jenny's cookbook, "Look Good, Feel Great" was published and again, Jenny donated 100% of her profits to breast cancer research at City of Hope.
  • Was a winner on the game show Press Your Luck (1983).
  • Fomer backup singer for Wayne Newton.
  • Plays the drums.
  • Lived in London, Ontario, throughout her high school years, attending Central Secondary School.
  • Achieved fame when she won $100,000 in the 1986 Star Search (1983). Her one-woman show, "Girl's Night Out", became more than a hit -- it was group therapy for her women audiences, the same ones who tuned in for more from her afternoon television talk show Jenny Jones (1991).
  • She became infamous on the stand-up comedy circuit for refusing to allow men to attend her comedy shows.
  • Won prizes in her appearance on The New Price Is Right (1972) game show before she made it in television.
  • Was born in the town that's widely reputed as the birthplace of Jesus Christ. This is a remarkable distinction as it's not only in the Middle East, but only has around 30,000 people living in it.
