His group Jimmy and the Boys had a #8 hit on the Australian pop chart in 1981 with a song called "They Won't Let My Girlfriend Talk to Me" which was written by Tim Finn (a co-frontman for the New Zealand band, Split Enz) when he didn't want to release it himself.
