DC movie veteran scribe David S. Goyer opens up about how he was advised by Christopher Nolan not to work on Ben Affleck's Batman film. While Robert Pattinson's The Batman movie became a huge success in 2022, the film was initially slated to serve as a solo outing for Affleck's version of the Dark Knight in the Dceu movie timeline. While Affleck was set to direct his Batman movie, while also writing it with Geoff Johns, he ended up departing from the project, with the instalment in turn then getting revamped into a reboot for the Caped Crusader under Matt Reeves.
During a new appearance on the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast, Goyer, who worked on Nolan's The Dark Knight trilogy, looked back at his comic book career, as he also penned the original Blade movies with Wesley Snipes. While addressing how fans want him to work on Marvel Studios' Blade reboot,...

Due to the many, many times we've seen Bruce Wayne's parents die in "Batman" movies and TV, there are quite a few different Thomas and Martha Wayne actors out there... even if most of them didn't last long enough to leave an impression!
The most recognizable actors to have played the late Waynes are probably Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Lauren Cohan in Zack Snyder's 2016 film "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice." (Morgan and Cohan are both well-known for playing Negan and Maggie on "The Walking Dead," respectively, and are currently starring together in the spin-off "Dead City.")
Snyder opens his movie by cutting between the Waynes being shot in an alley and young Bruce (Brandon Spink) running away from their funeral, only to fall into a cave of bats (and his future). Both scenes are fastidiously recreated from Frank Miller's seminal Batman comic,...

It's confirmed: Zack Snyder had a plan for a more comics-accurate Flashpoint adaptation in the DC Extended Universe. Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who played Thomas Wayne in Snyder's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, shared the filmmaker's original plan while on a promotion tour for The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 2.
After being asked by Den of Geek about him and his Dead City co-star Lauren Cohan portraying Bruce Wayne's parents in the Batman v Superman opening flashback, Morgan revealed that there was originally a plan to introduce the Flashpoint Batman to the Dceu. "Truthfully, Zack was gonna do more movies," he confirmed. "And I think there was a time when Flashpoint Batman would have seen these two characters in a much bigger role. And that was part of the Zack world of all of it, and then I never got a chance to do that, unfortunately."

When The Batman came out, it was a game-changer for DC. The tone was grim. The script was spectacular. The characters were beyond expectations. It defied everyone's belief in yet another Batman actor and film performing well.
The movie was spectacular leaving fans clamoring for more from the mercurial mind of Matt Reeves. Then, Max released The Penguin, which actually upped the titanic ante for critics. They couldn't avoid the talent of Colin Farrell and that dynamic script from Reeves.
Farrell's apoplectic portrayal of Oz Cobb was undeniable, earning him Critics' Choice, Emmy, Golden Globe, and SAG for Best Actor. Then, AFI gave it TV Program of the Year honors. Of course, we need more!
That has been the plan with The Batman: Part II said to be coming, but it seems that Matt Reeves may have left The Batman: Part II.

Accomplished character actor Paul Ben-Victor is joining the Dcu in the upcoming HBO seriesLanterns, and he might be secretly playing a fan-favorite DC villain. Lanterns is currently filming, aiming for a 2026 premiere date that will likely come before the release of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. Even though Lanterns has been described as an Earth-bound mystery involving Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) and John Stewart (Aaron Pierre), that doesn't mean intergalactic threats won't find their way into the series.
Deadline reports that actor Paul Ben-Victor has signed on for a recurring role in the Dcu's Lanterns. The Accountant 2 director reveals why his plans for DC's Suicide Squadsequel were scrapped. Before James Gunn was hired to write and direct a sequel/soft reboot of 2016's Suicide Squad, Warner Bros. had approached O'Connor to course correct the franchise. O'Connor had just directed The Accountant for Warner Bros. and had made a name for himself directing gritty character-centric stories like Warrior, Pride and Glory, and Jane Got a Gun. O'Connor signed to direct The Suicide Squad 2 in September 2017, but later departed the project in October 2018, moving over to re-team with The Accountant star Ben Affleck on The Way Back.
Speaking with Collider, O'Connor reveals that he left work on the Suicide Squad sequel due to disagreements with the studio. The director says how the constant changing leadership at Warner Bros. and DC led to a disagreement, as a newly appointed head of the company seemingly wanted O'Connor to...

Tom Hardy was originally cast as Rick Flag in the 2016 version of Suicide Squad, arguably the most detested superhero movie released in the past decade. While Joel Kinnaman was cast in his place, Hardy would star as Eddie Brock in the Venom trilogy, a slightly more favorable superhero antihero befitting of Hardy's gritty nonsense persona.
Although it's amusing to ponder how much better the movie would have fared if Hardy had starred as Rick Flag in the grim and humorless Suicide Squad, the large ensemble cast would have robbed Hardy of the chance to showcase his command of carrying a big blockbuster on his back. While Hardy is likely thrilled to have dodged a Suicide Squad bullet with his name on it, fans will never know how it would have fared with him fighting alongside Joker, Deadshot, Harley Quinn, et al.

On March 18, 2021, Zack Snyder's Justice League premiered on HBO Max. While it did little to sway the filmmaker's detractors, most DC fans seemed to agree that it was a huge improvement over Joss Whedon's 2017 theatrical cut.
Warner Bros. allowed Snyder to add new scenes to the movie, many of which set the stage for his unmade sequels. Then, there were the teases already in there from back when he was essentially in charge of the DC Extended Universe.
Four years later and over two years after DC Studios was formed to reboot the Dceu as the Dcu, it's pretty obvious Snyder's Justice League sequels won't happen. It's hard to say why we've never got an animated or comic book follow-up, but in this feature, we're taking a closer look at the biggest unresolved plot threads and what, if anything, has been revealed about the filmmaker's intentions for them.

Patrick Wilson, the star of franchises like The Conjuring, Insidious and Aquaman, has commented on his potential return to the DC Studios franchise. Wilson played Orm Marius, a.k.a. Ocean Master, in the two Aquaman entries that were directed by James Wan as part of Zack Snyder's Dceu. Now that James Gunn has taken over the franchise and turned it into the Dcu, fans are curious about which previous characters – if any – might be allowed to return.
Wilson spoke to Variety on the podcast Just for Variety, where he talked about his current projects. He's promoting his new film, Millers in Marriage, a drama written and directed by Edward Burns. However, Wilson is also pursuing a career in theatre. He's currently co-producing a musical based on the '80s film The Lost Boys, and in the past, he's been featured in plays like Oklahoma! and The Full Monty.

Ryan Reynolds is a fan-favorite actor, whose role as a leading actor grossed over $4.4 billion at the worldwide box office. Now synonymous with the role of Deadpool, the actor is easily defined by his cheek-in-tongue, self-deprecating humor.
Over the years, Reynolds made a name for himself with roles that often poked fun at himself, whether in action, comedy, or more. While the actor proved his range in films like 2008's Fireflies in the Garden, 2010's Buried, and 2014's Voices, it was his comedy roles that won the public over and enchanted the critics. However, in a new episode of Brotherly Love Podcast, hosted by actor Matthew Lawrence and his brothers Joey and Andy, Matthew opened up about his experience with Reynolds on the set of 1998's Boltneck, where the Canadian actor reportedly "really upset" the crew.

The DC Universe and The Batman Epic Crime Saga are no longer DC Studios' only shared universes. My Adventures with Superman showrunner/executive producer Jake Wyatt has confirmed that a recently announced animated series will exist within the same universe as the 2023 cartoon.
At a recent DC Studios press event, co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran announced three new "younger-skewing" cartoons: Starfire, DC Super Powers, and My Adventures with Green Lantern. While it wasn't confirmed during the event, many fans suspected that My Adventures with Green Lantern might be connected to Maws beyond the similar naming convention, especially since Wyatt is attached to Mawgl as an executive producer. Wyatt didn't keep fans guessing for long, confirming with a post on X that the two shows would be part of the same shared universe.

When people think of superhero shows, they often think of the DC Animated Universe, the CW's Arrowverse, Spider-Man: The Animated Series, or X-Men: The Animated Series. While those franchises helped establish many superhero icons, there are plenty of superhero shows that the average person doesn’t know exist. A quick cancelation is often one of the biggest reasons, but sometimes it simply comes down to people not being familiar with the IP.
Sticking to only Batman and Spider-Man is a sure way to overlook a wealth of great content. Even within popular franchises, there are series that many people don’t know exist. With over ten Spider-Man shows alone, there are bound to be quality superhero series that have been forgotten or never discovered.

Grant Gustin revealed his initial reaction to The Flash's "Duet" episode. Fans consider that Supergirl crossover a highlight of the Arrowverse, especially Kara Danvers and Barry Allen's musical number.
The Flash was the best show in The CW's Arrowverse. Fans went through a rollercoaster of emotions across nine seasons of The Flash, especially its crossover episodes. Season 3's "Duet" caught audiences by surprise, however; the plot involved Kara Danvers and Barry Allen trapped in a musical dreamworld. "Duet" was surreal because it broke from the show's grounded narrative, but audiences loved the novelty. Critics praised "Duet" for its lighthearted tone and endearing ensemble, but Grant Gustin had reservations about filming that episode; he told Michael Rosenbaum that "Duet" was an odd turn for the show.

Before James Gun rebooted all of DC’s media, the Arrowverse was the staple shared continuity of DC’s super heroes on tv. The series of connected tv shows, which began when Arrow premiered on the CW back in 2012, was arguably bigger and definitely better than any of Snyder’s Dceu films or projects.
For a long time, the shared TV shows allowed heroes such as Green Arrow and The Flash to interact and share a space on screen, with their yearly crossovers consistently growing in scale, you always had a guarantee of a big superhero team up. It wasn’t until the Elsewords crossover event that we got to see two of the big Justice League members interact however, and - if you thought you were freaking out - apparently so were the stars themselves.

The DC Universe has already begun with one TV series by way of Creature Commandos, but more are on the way. One of these is Lanterns, which will focus on the Green Lantern mythos with both Hal Jordan and John Stewart. Recently, a casting decision was announced for the show, and it bodes well for one member of the Green Lantern Corps in particular, in a ironic way.
Ulrich Thompsen has been cast as Sinestro in Lanterns, bringing the most iconic Green Lantern villain to the Dcu. He's also Hal Jordan's infamous rival, which speaks to both characters having a major role in the shared universe. It might also avoid the mistakes of other attempted Dcu adaptations, while putting certain fears about the show to rest.

In the season finale, Lois passes away after her cancer returns, with Clark joining her in the afterlife a few years later after dying of heart failure. The pair, however, enjoyed a full life together before their deaths.

Having played the iconic DC character the Flash longer than anyone, Grant Gustin has now given insight into how he kept the Scarlet Speedster fresh for so long. Gustin played the Barry Allen incarnation of the character in The CW's The Flash for nine seasons and also appeared in crossovers and other shows across the Arrowverse.
Gustin told Cbr at Megacon that the show retained its freshness because he took the responsibility of playing the Flash seriously. "It was never an intentional thought about how to keep it fresh," he began. "I'm a very scene-by-scene actor. I wanted to keep it realistic. The only reason I did a decent job with the show is I took it very seriously. Try not to suck." Gustin's dedication to playing the Crimson Comet has always been evident in interactions with fans throughout his years of playing the character in the show that ended its run two years ago.

Superman & Lois star Elizabeth Tulloch recently revealed there was a planned crossover with the Arrowverse franchise. It never materialized as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Speaking at MegaCon Orlando, Tulloch shared that Superman & Lois almost crossed over with Batwoman -- but the pandemic ended up impacting the studio's ability to film safely. "There was a brief discussion about us having a crossover with Batwoman, but there was [sic] strict Covid protocols back then," she said. "They were concerned about the cast."

In the 2010s, the success of Arrow resulted in a Flash spinoff series and eventually the entire Arrowverse. Despite being its spiritual successor, Smallvillenever went down this path. However, it wasn't for a lack of trying, and as recently as two years ago, there was still interest in reviving the beloved Superman series.
Smallville was a smash hit that lasted 10 seasons, but none of its potential spinoffs even got a single season. Only one of the conceptualized spinoffs even had a pilot produced, even after the CW drama went out of its way to include multiple backdoor pilots. Every proposed spinoff would have starred at least one iconic DC hero, and with fans having only recently learned about some of them, it's possible there are still pitches that haven't been unveiled.

Quick LinksSuperman and Supergirl Can Share a Dcu SequelThis Superman Arc Is Perfect for the DCUOne of Superman's Most Important Villains Must Appear In the Dcu
The first DC Universe movie is still a few months away, with James Gunn's Superman reboot being the first movie in the new shared universe. The next film will be Supergirl, which focuses on Superman's cousin in a story based directly on a comic book storyline. While it's unknown where the two Kryptonians will appear next, there's also a perfect formula for the third Dcu "Super" movie.
A tentative Superman & Supergirl Dcu movie is the most logical way to put the two together, especially since that's unlikely to happen in either of their solo movies. If that's the case, it can also adapt a major story arc from the comics that would thematically act as a great follow-up to the first two DC Universe films.

Tom Cavanagh, best known for playing Reverse-Flash and multiple versions of Harrison Wells on The Flash TV show, recently shared his opinion on the The Flash movie during Fan Expo Portland. The 2023 film had a rough release, failing to meet expectations despite being a long-awaited entry in the Dceu timeline.
Speaking about the movie, Cavanagh admitted he had seen it and even liked it. He acknowledged the challenges the film faced, including the off-screen controversies surrounding Ezra Miller.
While protective of Grant Gustin’s portrayal of Barry Allen, Cavanagh said he appreciated how the movie made Barry feel ‘more innocent and different.’ He added, ‘They purposely lowered his Iq a bit, which was a smart move because it created a fresh take instead of copying what we did for ten years.’

The Flash stood every chance of being a great comic book movie. After Zack Snyder's divisive approach to the Scarlet Speedster, filmmaker Andy Muschietti looked set to get the hero back on track and team him up with Michael Keaton's iconic Batman.
Unfortunately, the movie didn't work. Whether it was Ezra Miller's personal issues overshadowing the character, his zany performance/s, or a lot of bad CGI, The Flash failed to strike a chord with audiences. Even after decent reviews, it flopped with $271 million worldwide.
While it would be incorrect to say The Flash movie was in the shadow of The CW's The Flash, there was an awful lot that TV show did better than Warner Bros.' big screen effort.

Batman: Arkham Series is one of the most incredible franchises out there. Bringing the DC superhero to life and giving the players a chance to actually become “The Batman,” the Arkham series truly surpassed all expectations. Although the whole series gets a good enough reception, some consider Batman: Arkham Knight a subpar title in the franchise.

Pedro Pascal got his start in the acting world with short films in the 1990s after attending New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, and while it might have taken him nearly 20 years to get his breakout role, he has proven his talent with his bet movies and TV shows of recent years. Pascal made a living appearing in one-off television show roles in the 1990s, including an episode of Buffy The Vampire Slayer, but he has successfully transitioned into much more substantial roles.
Following his 2014 break with a supporting role in Game of Thrones, Pedro Pascal has become a household name. He has become part of some of the biggest franchises, including being cast in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Fantastic Four. Pascal is set to have a huge year in 2025 with some of his biggest projects yet coming out, but these movies and TV shows are Pascal’s best right now.

Few characters in superhero comic books are as mysterious as the Joker. Since his very first appearance, his origin has intentionally been kept a secret and vague. A few creators have played with this mystery, and in 2024 one major unresolved mystery has finally been folded into continuity. While Geoff Johns tried to explain the discrepancies in the Joker's backstory, Chip Zdarsky was the one who found a way to make it canon.
What has fueled so much confusion about the Joker is that he never seems to be the same. One moment he's a brutal serial killer, and the next moment he's a harmless prankster. The Joker continually seemed to shift his personality, which led certain people to question if the Joker was even the same person each time, but readers finally got an answer in Batman: The Joker Year One by Zdarsky and Giuseppe Camuncoli, a story continued in...

There are so many amazing villains that Superman has gone up against over the years, but Doomsday isn't among them. Characters like Darkseid and Lex Luthor are ingrained in pop culture history due to what amazing villains they are. But not every villain that Superman has gone up against is so fantastic. While Doomsday is an undeniably popular villain, the argument could be made that he's not a very good one.
Doomsday is an incredibly intimidating villain, but he's not exactly compelling. He only lives to cause death and destruction. He doesn't care about anything else. Every time Doomsday shows up, it's an incredibly dangerous situation that pushes Superman to his limits, but that's a story that can only be told so many times before it gets stale, leading to the problem of Doomsday just not being a very good villain for Superman. He's mostly an obstacle to be avoided,...

The Flash may be one of DC's revered heroes, standing proud among Justice League icons like Superman and Wonder Woman, but he also has a dark side that most aren't aware of. Beneath the Flash's carefree attitude lies a simmering rage that, when brought to the surface, results in him carrying out actions that put him on par with his most malicious villains.

The Green Lantern mythos seems to be an important part of the Dcu, and there is no shortage of fantastic storyline that the universe should adapt regarding the Green Lantern Corps. Lanterns will feature Hal Jordan and John Stewart, while James Gunn's Superman will introduce the world to Guy Gardner. Even though the Dcu is just beginning, there are already three Green Lanterns set to appear in the budding universe.
Green Lantern has not had the best luck when it comes to live-action, as the Ryan Reynolds-led movie from 2011 was a massive failure, bombing at the box-office and becoming the punchline of many jokes (from Reynolds himself) about it. Hopefully, the Dcu can redeem it, considering HBO's Lanterns looks to be a more grounded, prestigious attempt at adapting the larger-than-life mythos. Diving into the wider world of the Green Lantern Corps, there are several storylines we hope to see in the Dcu.

Following the release of James Gunn’s Superman trailer, fans have become obsessed with how David Corenswet’s titular character is set to be a comic-accurate version. Unlike the gritty portrayal of Henry Cavill’s Man of Steel, DC fans are losing their minds over Corenswet’s righteous and mighty superhero. So much so that fans even expressed their desire to see the likeness of Superman from Doomsday Clock in Corenswet’s version.

Given how Superman defeated Dr. Manhattan in the events of Doomsday Clock, with his kindness and humility rather than using his powers, DC fans are hoping for James Gunn’s Superman to feature similar qualities in David Corenswet’s version. Hoping for Kal-El to once again return to his era of kindness and principle over sheer physical power, fans want Corenswet’s Superman to exhibit similar characteristics.

Zack Snyder has become somewhat of a legend in the world of DC. While the franchise has been moving to a new phase, leaving him behind, the impact that his films had on the reputation of the franchise is something to be studied. While this is true, many seem to forget the kind of criticism that he received when he was in his prime and not a glorified figure of the past.

There were many things that hardcore fans of the comics did not like about his films. It would seem that DC Studios caught on quite quickly and took some very serious steps to ensure that his vision aligned with theirs. While some might call the measures they took extreme, Snyder did not seem to mind them in the slightest.

The tragedy that Batman went through is what inspired him to eventually become a superhero, and it's been a major part of his character for the majority of his history - but it doesn't even hold a candle to the tragedy experienced by one Green Lantern ally. While witnessing his parents murdered is certainly a tragic backstory for Bruce Wayne, it pales in comparison to the backstory of Blue Lantern Saint Walker.

To be fair, I’m far from a Green Lantern expert, but even as a casual reader of the Emerald Knight, I noticed an odd discrepancy in a recent comic release concerning how his powers typically work. It made me wonder—did DC really forget this basic capability of a Green Lantern's ring, or was it an intentional oversight to emphasize just how powerful the Justice League’s newest villain is?
This confrontation stands as one of Green Lantern’s fastest defeats at the hands of a villain.
Jeff Parker, Lukas Ketner, Michele Bandini, and Marcelo Maiolo’s Batman / Santa Claus: Silent Knight Returns #3 follows a Justice League subteam as they take on their latest holiday-themed threat: the Silent Knight. This skeletal, armor-clad foe has proven exceptionally overpowered, using magic to incapacitate some of DC’s strongest heroes—including Superman, Queen Nubia, Mera, and more—by draining them of their abilities.

The Joker is one of the most complicated villains in fiction because he never seems to be the same person. DC has explored this aspect of the Joker a ton over the decades, with a recent story concretely confirming that the Joker absolutely has three separate personalities. But I still think that there's a fourth Joker personality, and DC has given us plenty of hints about it.
There have been tons of different interpretations and explorations of the Joker's different personalities. Some stories, like Three Jokers by Geoff Johns and Jason Fabok, have posited the idea that the Joker is actually three separate people.
Chip Zdarsky took a different direction in his Batman run, explaining that the Joker's different personalities are from training with Dr. Daniel Captio, the same person who helped Batman craft his Zur-En-Arrh personality. While Bruce only created one back-up personality for himself, the Joker immediately saw...

From Batman to Booster Gold, DC Comics is filled with exciting heroes and even more exciting titles. Just as the new Dcu is getting on its feet and ready to have its true beginning with 2025's Superman, the film world is ripe for more comic book adaptations. Some of the best comic book movies have been straight-to-film adaptations, as the films often stand up better on their own if they reflect the true heart of their source material.
And there's a lot of source material yet untapped in DC's best comics. There are some iconic comics that are the pillars of the industry - and the superhero genre in particular - and then there are some lesser-known comics that are still some of the most cohesive stories today. In any case, there are some truly underrated DC gems that very much deserve to be adapted in the new on-screen version of the Dcu.

Rachel Zegler's Snow White is expected to arrive in 2025, and even before the film hits the theaters, it has been shrouded with heavy criticism and controversy. The recently released trailer also seems to tease a magically infused The Hunger Games vibe with a suspenseful and dark soundtrack. Zegler will portray one of the most loved Disney princesses of all time, but before Snow White, she had already stepped into several tough roles, one being Maria in West Side Story.
Even though Zegler is still very new to the big screen, she has been featured in some of the biggest franchises. From DC Extended Universe to The Hunger Games to an A24 horror film, the actor is spreading her wings and showcasing her range, but of course, her best roles are always accompanied by her singing. West Side Story caught her in a tragic star-crossed romance torn by an ancient feud,...

In the fictional reality of DC Comics, death doesn't have as much permanence as it does in the real world. Plenty of prominent superheroes across the DC Universe have died over the years, but those deaths have a tendency to be reversed one way or another. Whether it's through resurrection in the Lazarus Pit or reboots to the timeline, many Justice League heroes have managed to cheat death.
When a character like Superman dies, readers know that it's simply a matter of time before he makes his triumphant return. Characters who possess inhuman durability on Superman's level aren't the only ones who have conquered death, of course; even heroes who lack tangible superpowers, such as Green Arrow, have successfully navigated resurrection through less obvious means. These 10 formidable superheroes have all died tragically at some point in DC history, only to circumvent their fates and live to tell the story.

Over the years, DC Comics has introduced countless superheroes to the world, including icons like Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman. However, not every superhero attains that level of mainstream fame, as many end up falling to the wayside with time. The DC Universe is vast, and there are plenty of lesser-known heroes who don't get nearly enough recognition. And it's about time that changed.
Some characters within DC lore may have been popular once, but have since been neglected as others surpassed them in the public eye. With god-like figures and renowned warriors at the forefront of the Justice League, it stands to reason that underdogs would pale in comparison. Still, these heroes deserve as much of a fair shot as the likes of the Trinity, and DC's All In era is the perfect opportunity for them to be revived. Here are 8 overlooked heroes that DC needs to bring back into the spotlight.
