Before becoming famous as an actor in Red Dwarf (1988), he was known as a dancer and singer. He performed with top music acts such as David Bowie and Wham!.

In season 5, episode 6, of _"Death in Paradise" (2011), Danny's character, Officer Dwayne Myers, deals with a young scamp named Jackson. Jackson was played by Danny's son, Danté Langlais-John-Jules.

He appeared in "Little Shop of Horrors," singing with a group of other people at a bus stop.

His nephew (not son, as some have reported) Alexander John-Jules played Lister as a baby in Ouroboros (1997).

In the Family Guy episode "Road to Germany" there is a reference to the "Total Eclipse of the Sun" song in "Little Shop of Horrors", and an animated character based on Danny John-Jules's background performance can be seen briefly, alongside animated characters based on the other dancers.

He is the son of Dominican parents.

He was a member of the original cast of the London production of Starlight Express at the Apollo Victoria Theatre playing the role of Rocky I - a box car.
