One of the great joys of attending international film festivals is the opportunity to discover exciting new talent, talent that often turns up in the short film programs. I had exactly that opportunity yesterday at the Morbido Festival in Mexico when I came across La Promesa by Erwin Jaquez.A scientist inspects an automata that has made some behavioral problems. By careful examination, the man realizes that something is wrong, misplaced. Or perhaps it could be the next technological leap in robotics and artificial intelligence?Jaquez is both a fabulous Dp and visual effects artist, both skill sets are put to remarkable use here. Just as remarkable, however, is his ability to handle character and actors. Take a look at the trailer below....
