Composer, conductor and bassist in dance bands including those of
Charlie Barnet, Woody Herman, Jan Savitt, Terry Shand, Mike Riley,
Johnny Messner, Raymond Scott, and Henry Busse. He also led his own
band, and appeared on television. Joining ASCAP in 1956, his chief
musical collaborators included Ralph Burns and Woody Herman, and his
popular instrumental compositions include "Northwest Passage".
