Biography

    • Fritz Imhoff, born as Friedrich Jeschke, studied at business college before taking singing and art courses. As a singer, he appeared in 1912 at the Stadttheater bei Wien. From 1920 to 1928, he played at Wiener Johann-Strauss-Theater; then six years at the Theater an der Wien, and from 1934 till 1938, at the Volksoper and in Cabarets and Varietés. In 1939 to 1944, he played at the Raimund-Theater and worked also there as the director till 1948.

      He began silent movies in 1929 and made more than 100 movies during his life. He had good parts in all of his Films, but some of his funny once were in La Chanson du vin nouveau (1953), Premier avril an 2000 (1952), Schwarz auf Weiß (1943) ("Black on White"), Reisebekanntschaft (1943) ("Trip Acquaintance"), Aimé des dieux (1942) ("Whom the Gods Love") and Hotel Sacher (1939).

  • Fritz Imhoff got many role offers after the war too but the role types turned out more one-sided than the years before. Because of his chubby appearance one wanted to see him play constantly the same characters, which he endured patiently. Still his performances got attention time and again.
  • With his engagement at the Johann Strauss-Theater in Vienna he became a popular national actor and comedian.
  • His real film career only began in the 30's.
  • After a singing training he appeared as a singer at the Stadttheater Baden bei Wien in 1913.
  • His brother was the famous composer Ernst Arnold.
