Hulu Had A Back-Up Plan For Its Futurama Reboot In Case John Dimaggio Didn't Return
Image
When Hulu announced they were going to revive "Futurama" for a third time, the good news (everyone) was immediately chased by the bad news that actor John Dimaggio -- who plays Bender and numerous other characters on the show -- may not return. The actor explained in a post on X (formerly known as Twitter) back in February 2022 that the studio didn't offer him enough money, but more than that, were seemingly dismissive -- in an unspecified way -- of the entire voice cast. This led to a month-long contract standoff wherein it looked like Dimaggio may actually quit the show and move on. This would have been unthinkable to "Futurama" fans, as Bender was one of the most important characters on the show, and having another actor -- no matter how good they were -- would seem like too large a change to accept.

The dispute was settled, although...

Max: Are Any Discovery Shows Worth Watching?
Image
Max has had some time to settle in for streaming audiences, and while the initial rollout wasn't flawless, it's still a decent start for the controversial rebrand. Most notably, a wide swath of Discovery brand content, from TLC dating shows to endless competitions from Food Network, is now available to watch on Max. It's so wide it's actually outnumbering everything else on Max.

If you care more about prestige television than its easy-viewing counterparts, you may feel inclined to outright ignore this massive influx of content. But we encourage you to not be so hasty. Underneath the piles of generic house-flipping shows and survival competitions are some interesting shows from Discovery's past and present worth looking at. We've assembled a few examples from Discovery Channel,...

Jim Lehrer (anchor/reporter of “MacNeil/Lehrer NewsHour)

Regis Philbin

Grant Imahara Remembered by Kari Byron, Tory Belleci: ‘We Shared a Long, Wild Adventure’

“Mythbusters” and “White Rabbit Project” alums Tory Belleci and Kari Byron have paid tribute to their former colleague Grant Imahara, who died unexpectedly on July 13. Read their tributes below.

Tory Belleci

I met Grant Imahara back in 1997 when I stepped through the doors of the Ilm model shop. To say I was nervous would be an understatement. Then this young kid, at least that’s what I thought, with a bounce in his step, wearing thick glasses and a lab coat walked up, smiled and in a chipper voice said,”Hello!” and I immediately felt at ease. That was Grant, always welcoming, always helpful and always ready to solve a problem. We worked on a lot of projects at Lucas Films, but building models for Star Wars in our minds was the Holy Grail. We had made it. We’d achieved our lifelong geek dream. Little did we know that...

Animatronic Baby Yoda Will Bring Balance to the Force and Children’s Hospitals
Grant Imahara
A former MythBuster has crafted an animatronic Baby Yoda that will tour children’s hospitals to cheer up kids — and potentially bring balance to the Force.

Grant Imahara, a longtime robotics expert on “MythBusters,” recently completed an animatronic of “The Mandalorian” Season 1’s breakout character and unofficial mascot of the 2019 fall television season. The resemblance to the little green character, whose official name is The Child, is uncanny: There’s the little brown robe, big green ears, and tuffs of wispy white hair. The creature also boasts the same cute movements that helped Baby Yoda make for some of yesteryear’s most viral TV moments.

CNET interviewed Imahara, who currently works as a consultant for Disney Research and as a mechanical designer at Spectral Motion, about the animatronic and its complicated design process in an article published Monday morning. Imahara began building the animatronic by crafting a digital model before...

Link Tank: Animatronic Baby Yoda Wows the Internet
Grant Imahara
Check out this amazing animatronic Baby Yoda by Grant Imahara from Mythbusters!

“Grant Imahara, formerly of Mythbusters, is a genius at design and tinkering. So it’s no surprise his animatronic Baby Yoda doll, built from scratch and recently showcased on his Instagram, is so impressive. Created with the power of 3D printing, mechanical design, programming, and probably the Force, this Baby Yoda is, above all else, convincing.”

Natasha Romanoff and Yelena Belova’s relationship may just be the highlight of the latest Black Widow trailer.

“Natasha Romanoff has always been something of a lone wolf, and now, in the final trailer for Black Widow, we can see that her heart may have always been with her sister, Yelena. Yelena Belova, who in the comics is also Black Widow, went through the same program that Natasha did as a child. While most definitely not blood-related (yet...

You'll Believe Baby Yoda Is Alive with Former Mythbuster's Realistic Animatronic
Grant Imahara
A new Baby Yoda animatronic puppet by former Mythbuster Grant Imahara is incredibly realistic. The Mandalorian's breakout star is ready for his chicken nuggets, just like the many memes sharing his likeness floating around the internet. By now, we should all know that this isn't really Master Yoda as a baby, the name just fits better than calling him the Child. Plus, we don't know the name of their species at the moment, so Yoda just seems to work.

Baby Yoda's popularity exploded back in November when he was first revealed. Since then, Star Wars fans have been clamoring for any official merchandise of him. The official toys don't hit the shelves until May, so a lot of fans have been taking matters into their own hands. Former MythBusters Grant Imahara is one of those fans who took things one step beyond what anyone else is doing. The robotics wizard...

Mindy Newell: The Adventure Will Continue
I don’t know about you, but I keep forgetting to watch Star Trek: Discovery.

I don’t know about you, but I couldn’t wait for each episode of Star Trek Continues.

As I’m sure you know, CBS, through the complicated Hollywood system of it’s mine, it’s mine!, owns the television rights to Trek and in its infinite wisdom stupidity decided to launch Discovery on their streaming network. Which you have to pay for.

Star Trek Continues, a continuation of the five-year mission of the Constellation class starship USS Enterprise Ncc-1701, captained by James Tiberius Kirk, is a love-fast to the original series. It is available for free on YouTube and its own website.

Stc was co-produced by the non-profit charity Trek Continues, Inc., Dracogen, Far From Home LLC and Farragut Films, and was partially funded by Kickstarter, in an incredibly successful campaign of crowd sourcing.

Star Trek Continues Comes to a Classy Conclusion
The best fan-made web-series has come to an end. To Boldly Go: Part 2 was released this week and it not only concludes the show in style, it also brings the 5-year mission of the Starship enterprise to a solid, entertaining end.

It was a bittersweet moment watching the final episode of Star Trek Continues. On one had, it was great to see this excellent series get wrapped up so well, but it was also sad to realize that there won’t be any further episodes. The purpose of the show was bridge the gap between the end of the classic 1966-69 TV series (“Turnabout Intruder” was the final original series episode) and big screen cinematic adventures, which it does very well. It was a great ride, while it lasted.

Vic Mignogna, the executive producer/writer, who portrays Captain Kirk on the show, explains what he wanted to accomplish with this last episode.

Star Trek Continues Episode 10: To Boldly Go
Part one of the final episode for the Web’s finest fan-made series came out this week, and as usual, it does not disappoint. As Star Trek Continues warps to its conclusion, long-time Trek fans are treated to a wonderful trip back to the very beginning of the classic series.

The latest episode of Stc, “To Boldly Go” (a homage to the famous opening narrative to Classic Trek and Star Trek: The Next Generation) is a fun trip into the Trek universe that pays homage to “Where No Man Has Gone Before”, the original 1966 pilot episode for Star Trek. (Okay, that was actually the second pilot, the first being “The Cage”, starring Jeffrey Hunter as Captain Pike, but I digress.) It shows the fidelity and affection that the makers of this show have for the source material; which is why they chose to end their series that way Star Trek began.

Star Trek Continues Episode 9: What Ships Are For
The best fan-made web-series, Star Trek Continues, returns with a new episode. Like the original Star Trek show it’s based on, it doesn’t shy away from controversial issues. Does the latest episode “What Ships Are For” maintain the series’ quality?

“What Ships Are For” is the ninth of a planned 11 episodes of this excellent show, and it’s too bad it will be coming to an end soon because it’s far and away the finest fan-made web show in production. What makes it so good is its fidelity to the classic 1966-1969 Star Trek TV series, which worked as a metaphor for socio-cultural issues of the day. (Something missing from the recent Jj Abrams films). Star Trek Continues also dives into a hot-button issue by tacking the subject of refugees.

In this episode, the crew of the Enterprise answer an Sos and find a society that is literally color blind,...

Star Trek Continues Returns With Another Superb Episode
For fans of classic Star Trek who want to see quality stories done in the spirt of the original series, you have a treat this week. The consistently excellent web series Star Trek Continues has put out its eighth episode, “Still Treads the Shadow”, and as usual, it does not disappoint.

For those who’ve never seen the multi-award winning Star Trek Continues, don’t dismiss it as “just” a fan-made web show. That does the series an injustice. It’s more than that. As someone whose been a Star Trek fan for over 40 years, and grew up with William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy and the rest of the original crew of the USS Enterprise, I never ceased to be amazed by how well this show captures the essence of the great show I adored in my childhood. It’s a terrific homage, made by people who love the original Star Trek.

‘White Rabbit Project’ Review: ‘MythBusters’ Build Team Series Is a Fun Netflix Experiment That Needs Troubleshooting
Grant Imahara, Tory Belleci, and Kari Byron in White Rabbit Project (2016)
“MythBusters” fans can now get their Build Team fix on with Netflix’s new series “White Rabbit Project,” which continues the trio’s science-entertainment adventures just in time for the holidays. It’s the kind of amusing show that you can co-view with your older/younger/dyspeptic family member with whom you may not have the best conversations, sans the unifying aid of TV.

Tory Belleci, Kari Byron, and Grant Imahara are back in fine form and as charismatic as ever, getting a strong introduction thanks to a snappy synth theme song. Unfortunately, the overall formula for the series is difficult to pull off. We don’t envy whoever had to conceive of a new science-based show to succeed “MythBusters,” which arguably had one of the simplest and yet satisfying premises in this genre:...

"MythBusters" star Grant Imahara just busted another myth ... nerds do score hot chicks, and he put a ring on his to seal the deal. Grant popped the question to his longtime Gf, Jennifer Newman, Wednesday night at Clifton's Cafeteria in downtown L.A. Most of the 250 guests thought they were there for Jennifer's surprise bday party, until Grant got down on bended knee. 'Mythbusters' Team Returns in 'White Rabbit Project'
2016-12-01T11:14:28-08:00'Mythbusters' Team Returns in 'White Rabbit Project'

The decision to get rid of some of the most beloved members of the Mythbusters cast during the series' final season arguably sealed the fate of the struggling show. Fans who haven't yet forgiven the series for that move are getting some measure of relief with the release this month of White Rabbit Project on Netflix. The series reunites Kari Byron, Tory Belleci, and Grant Imahara, and they'll be doing a lot of the same things they used to do on Mythbusters.

In White Rabbit Project, the trio will participate in segments that use experiments, tests, and construction projects to illustrate topics such as prison breaks, weaponry, and sensational crimes. Those topics will sound familiar to Mythbusters fans, since they're the kinds of topics that the trio investigated on that show, too.

Josh Holloway and Sarah Wayne Callies in Colony (2016)
7 New Netflix Shows to Binge Watch in December 2016, and The Best Episodes of Each
Josh Holloway and Sarah Wayne Callies in Colony (2016)
1. “Trollhunters” Season 1 (available December 23)

Why Should I Watch It? Two big reasons: First, the director of “Pan’s Labyrinth,” Guillermo del Toro, created “Trollhunters,” an animated event series about a teenager who discovers a mystical amulet that unveils a secret civilization of trolls beneath his hometown. If the Oscar nominee himself isn’t enough, there’s another creative force — in addition to the impressive voice cast of Kelsey Grammer, Ron Perlman and Charlie Saxton — to pay attention to: Said teenager is voiced by Anton Yelchin, in what’s being billed his final role. After debuting two episodes at New York Comic-Con in October, del Toro said he never even discussed replacing Yelchin. “We didn’t go into a meeting,” del Toro said. “We didn’t have a conference. […] He was a great guy to work with, he was proud of what he did, we were proud of what he did.
