Movies worth watching often enough to learn entire lines of dialogue, unintentionally!

Almost too sophisticated to be truly appreciated by the teenagers it's aimed at. It's smart, funny, honest and an actual "feel good" movie.

The first genuine, fire-breathing dragon of the Marvel Movie franchise and the one that proved beyond all doubt that Stan Lee and Jack Kirby were true geniuses!

FINALLY! A movie that proved beyond all doubt that good television matters and that true fans can move mountains when given a cause worth fighting for. Joss Whedon, you da'man!

Stephen Sommers is an underrated talent. He knows how to tell a good story, develops his characters and most of all he uses CGI in service of the story instead of creating a story to show off the effects.

Not just a movie, an experience. A timeless story for the ages and for generations of women who never knew they had a choice.

Beautiful, heartfelt, touching and soul searching. If you can't find hope and love in this film then you'll never find it in another.

A magical, fairy tale of a movie that needed no translation whatsoever to tell its story.

Obviously, I can't add a quote here because I don't speak Chinese and refused to watch the movie in any language other than the one it was made in. But regardless of language, this film is a lovely piece of poetry in motion with the ability to show and to tell in ways that never required words to be understood. It never ceases to amaze me and never ceases to move me to tears. It is the definition of good storytelling, in every language possible. But it would be worth so much more than words to truly be able to quote it, which is why it's on this list.

Possibly the most underrated, terrifying, gothic horror space film EVER MADE. And if you leave off gothic and space, it's STILL the very best example of the horror genre I've ever seen. The cast was terrified of the sets and hated filming at night. Some of the cast and/or crew wondered if the set was haunted and I just don't think it gets any better than when the cast and crew are running spooked.

I'm not entirely certain that I was even breathing in the theater. But I must have been or I'd be dead instead of being here telling you that this movie scared the living crap out of me. It makes the Exorcist look like Laurel and Hardy and I'm sure I'll take heat for that, but BRING IT! Event Horizon deserves the battle! I still can't watch it in the dark and that's saying something about a movie that's almost 20 years old.

I clearly remember both reading the book and seeing the movie. It was the summer of "Don't go in the water" and I have to tell you that nobody wanted to.

A lot of people think ET put Spielberg on the map but for me, it will always be the TV movie Duel and the one with the shark we can't ever get enough of. This move NEVER GETS OLD…

Long before schlock-combination-satire movies were even a glint in some ridiculous Holly"what"(s) blind, only-registering $ signs eye came AIRPLANE!... and there was much rejoicing!?! For those of us who grew up watching great old B-movie double features at the theater, this film was a masterpiece of good, old-fashioned fun. They took everything everyone had ever seen and turned it on it's ear to create what is still one of the most wonderful ''dissing" of "Hollywood did WHAT again?!" that has ever been seen. With a plethora of great lines to boot around forever....


"I guess I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue!"

"... and DON'T call me Shirley!"

"I'm afraid he has a drinking problem..." (One that AA wouldn't know WHATEVER to do with!)

When Saturday Night Live first appeared on the air, no one could ever have guessed that it would become the epitome of "cool"; Or that it would go on to discover, introduce and display the greatest number of comics ever to have come from one show. People who would go on to become icons of their eras and cross any number of boundaries in the entertainment media. Lets face it SNL was, for many of us late boomers, the very definition of "COOL". So it came as no surprise when two of it's greatest "funnymen" set out to give us The Blues Brothers... lowbrow, highbrow, no brow at all and with a herald of who's who in musical mishmash that may never be matched... including our boys Dan Aykroyd & John Belushi. Thanks for the memories guys... and I'd add an RIP to John but I can't imagine him actually "resting" in ANY life he's part of!


"WE'RE ON A MISSION FROM GOD.".... oh how true and OH, how badly we all wished we could come up with a valid enough reason to actually USE THAT LINE and have it live up to the original!

J. Cameron with an outlandish, wildly original movie that turned any number of Sci-Fi preconceptions right on their glorious a$$es! Ahhhnnoold as "the bad guy"? Machines from the future coming to kill the past... "Come with me if you want to live"... and a couple of waitresses just trying to get by... "Trust me, in a thousand years no one will remember".... and hey, getting to the past FROM the future meant you had to go NEKKID!!!! What's not to love? It was an action-packed, "6 Flags over: pick your state" rollercoaster ride and when a broken down, indestructible "Terminator" kicked the holy craptastic a$$ out of a police precinct and closed with the comment: "I'll be back".... history had just been made!

I'm sure it was trying to be an intelligent, thoughtful vision of a dystopian future... I'm SURE that's why they needed "Moses" (Charlton Heston) to help prove their point. But in the end, all I really remember is: "SOYLENT GREEN IS PEOPLE"! And because it's one of the most iconic movie lines I can remember from a movie I've forgotten so long ago I had to look up Heston's name... I figured the line itself deserved a mention. After all, aren't we entirely too familiar with the "one-hit-wonders" from the music biz?! ; - )

Because the bad-a$$ Clint Eastwood in the baddest of all time cop movies and makes that bad look so bloody good...it probably deserves more than just one little mention on my small, opinionated list. Dirty Harry invented the tough-guy cop and CE made it look so "cool" (there's that word again!) that it seemed as easy as breathing it looked so natural on him.

Tell me you haven't quoted it... go ahead, try. I'm only going to ask you one question: "Do you feel lucky punk? Well, DO YOU?!!"

Nuff said!

The great, grandaddy of the old Hollywood studio days when leaving an "epic" off your roll call of films meant you just weren't trying hard enough. Gone with the Wind is not just a Rubix Cube of infighting, backstabbing, gossip, chicanery and shots heard round the world.... It is also a magnificent film packed full of incredible performances, extraordinary location shots and magnificent studio lot recreations... (and there's this hysterical take on it on The Carol Burnett show too!) along with some of the most memorable lines in the history of film:


"Frankly my dear, I don't give a damm!"

"I don't know nuthin bout birthin no babies Miss Scarlett!"

"God as my witness, I'll never go hungry again."

And NOBODY thought Scarlett could or would become one of the most-remembered female characters in history if she were played by some nobody "Brit actress"! GOOD FOR YOU VIV! ; - )

ESPECIALLY, most especially with this movie it's important to remind you that I don't put things in any certain kind of order. Something comes to mind and it goes on the list. Simple as that. It's important to remind you of this fact because I should honestly be booed out of the theater in my mind for putting this movie at #18... SHAME ON ME!!!

I saw this when it was first released. My Dad took the whole family. But it was the two of us who had tears of laughter streaming down our faces through most of the movie... my bro was a little young and my Mom was a nice "Preacher's Kid" over whose head most of the movie seemed to pass.

Since the troupe is pretty much The Kings of the One-Liners, it almost seems unfair to include them on ANY LIST relating to anything funny on any screen they've been shown on. Because let's face it, they really ARE the professionals and putting them up against anyone or anything else just seems like bad manners. Like putting a judge for a beauty contest on the Federal Supreme Court... IT JUST AIN'T RIGHT!!! But what the he!!, I'm gonna do it anyway...

Of course, some of these, while perfect and perfectly funny, do deserve a visual...

"She's a witch! She turned me into a newt!... I got better."

"Bring out your dead. [clang] Bring out your dead!"

"I'm, I'm not dead"... "Yes you are!"... "No, I'm not."..."Look, I can't take him if he's not dead." "Well, when will you be back round again?" ..... "Nope, can't wait that long." [smash]


"RUN AWAY! RUN AWAY!"

"What's the airspeed velocity of an unladen sparrow?"... "African or European?"... "I, I don't know that!" [BOOM... wizard launches into space and over the side of the bridge]

"Bring out the Holy Hand-grenade.".... "and three shalt be the number thou shalt count".....

For words misplaced, in the wrong order, or left out entirely....
