'Karate Kid: Legends' Stars Answer Fan Questions
Jackie Chan, Ben Wang, and Ralph Macchio answer questions from IMDb fans about the latest movie in the 'Karate Kid' franchise, their martial-arts skills, favorite Mr. Miyagi moments, that controversial crane kick, and more. Wang told IMDb he learned his karate skills entirely during production of the upcoming 'Karate Kid' installment, training with instructors in Montreal where the film was shot. The conversation, which included franchise veterans Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio, offered new details about the production. Chan, who returns to the franchise, detailed his extensive martial arts background, describing his decade-long study of Southern style kung fu before branching into multiple disciplines including karate, judo, and hapkido. The action star explained how he incorporates diverse movement styles, including street dancing, into his fight choreography. Macchio, speaking about the franchise's 40-year-plus legacy, highlighted its multigenerational appeal. "The themes are rooted in positivity and achieving goals and good over evil and dealing with loss and coming out the other end," Macchio said. "In a world that's not always so positive, it's nice to be connected with something that brings a little bit of joy and positivity to all ages." The latest chapter in the 'Karate Kid' saga, which unites Chan and Macchio on screen for the first time, continues the franchise's exploration of martial arts and mentorship when the film premieres on Friday, May 30.
