  • I remember this series, I was 15 years old

Vincent Price was really cool. I recall he made several guest appearances at the time including a memorable dual guest shot on the Bionic Women. The previous review was right on the money and brought back a lot of memories. It seems there were about four episodes and they were building to some type of background regarding the "crew" of the ghost train. They referred to the "Head of the Line" several times and you always wondered who or what that was.. of course in those days it was more likely to be some religious figure than science fiction, but supernatural and scifi were neck and neck in those days. Almost like Westerns and Star Wars were about equally popular. In those days.

  • Wow flash from the past

This was the first Cable movie I ever saw way back in 1983.

The best things were its gadgets and predictions, more or less about our time believe it or not. He had a tricked up motorcycle with a heads up display on the inside of his helmet. Today I wish I had one of those with an lcd panel for my cubicle at work, complete with 5.1 dolby and bluetooth, oh well. The movie was great and I believe an ex-Monkey fellow named Mike Nesmit was somehow involved. It kinda fits in that genera that included 'The Comet' and Fred Wards later movie 'Remo Williams'. The helicopter scene is legendary even today. And Peter Coyote and Richard Masur have gone on to bigger and better things. I think it would play very well even today it has a timeless quality to it. The dead on predictions about gadgets though were erie, like Captain Kirk and his cell phone and Quantum Leaps Albert and Zyggy's Palm Pilot or iPaq.. just goes to show that Art doesn't often imitate life, its usually the other way 'round. I'd highly recommend this movie even for a contemporary audience. Though, the shocker scene I think is often edited out.. even on the VHS or DVD releases I've heard... it doesn't take too much away from the story.

  • An original plot, provoked some interesting ideas

I saw this movie on cable back in College. In my opinion it was way ahead of its time. The movie was mostly that of a stranger in a strange land with amnesia, who comes to understand who he really is. And that he is on a rescue mission. The SciFi themes don't really emerge until very late in the film so its a very nice character study, and the actors and actresses play their parts very well. Keir Dullea did a fine job with his part and when he reveals he has recovered his memory and what he does with that knowledge leads to some very memorable moments.

Don't see this movie expecting your typical SciFI special effects extravaganza, do see it if you want to watch a serious people movie with some interesting thoughts about where humanity may eventually wind up.

In my opinion the recent Television series John Doe was a copy cat of this movie.. to a degree.. but perhaps with a little more X-Files violence and religious overtones, than this movie.

It's not a heart pounder.. just a mild adventure that leaves you a bit sad.. but hopeful in the end.. and just wondering.

It is a good movie in my opinion.. afterall I've remembered it quite well for over 20 years.
