In the context of this 95% sex film, the studs provide a large member, while the ladies provide orifices to stick them in. It doesn't get any "deeper" than that. Such is the state of 21st century adult film. The setups to each vignette were really flimsy, although they were arranged in terms of decreasing flimsiness, with the final one (Kelsi Monroe and Eva Angelina) having two locations instead of just one. Small blessings, I guess. Once the setup was dispensed with and the action began in earnest, things were serviceable. All the ladies were attractive and, ummm, talented. For my money, Eva Angelina was the most interesting to watch. And that boils down to her being an aggressive and enthusiastic performer. Will I watch this again? Probably not. At least not any time soon, as I have so much else in my collection to see for the first time. But for practically being gonzo, this turned out ok.

My first by Radley Metzger and the first of my Melusine 4k's that I've tried out. A grand success on both counts. I think this epitomized what "Porno Chic" was all about. More than just feeling like a *real* movie, this is one of the rare adult films I've seen so far where I was more interested in whatever witty thing would happen or be said next than in the particulars of any sexual coupling. The writing in this was excellent, as were the performances. If I had to pick a couple favorite moments, they would be Darby Lloyd Rains catching her husband cheating the first time and doing silent double takes to the camera; the other would be the black-and-white silent sequence with her and Alan Marlow. And Darby Lloyd Rains in a top hat and tails? Yes, please. For an adult film where sex, though integral, is still subordinate to the story, this is one of my favorites so far, and one I wouldn't mind revisiting multiple times.

One of the last hardcore films released theatrically, as much of the adult industry was transitioning to the home video market. And if this was a last stab at legitimacy, then well done. Of the adult films I've watched so far, both from the Golden Age and more recent ones, this felt the most like a "real" movie. The sense is that the sex served the story rather than the other way around. All the technical aspects were quite good, and even the acting was respectable more than just being functional. Tish Ambrose and Eric Edwards were good leads, with Edwards in particular getting to delve into some pretty heavy subject matter, but the standout scene for me was a particularly violent scene between Herschel Savage and Sheri St. Claire. Beyond that, the film was well-paced and had an interesting score. My only real issue was that the entire buildup of the plot was resolved rather perfunctorily in a 5-minute action scene. On the other hand, with a 10-day shoot and a fraction of the budget of a Hollywood picture, it's not like they could have done something on the scale of Rambo. Overall, while I may have been more affected by a couple of the other early 70's titles I've seen so far (e.g., The Devil in Miss Jones), I really enjoyed this one, which bodes well for the other 80's theatrical hardcore I have coming up.
