  • Hallmark but with a Netflix budget

So I guess this is what happens when you give a Hallmark Channel company a Netflix budget. This was clearly produced for the Hallmark Channel and then at some point Netflix probably showed up and was like "Here's a bunch of money. Let us buy it" Because they're buying everything these days. If I wanted the cheesy Hallmark rom-com I would watch their channel. I was expecting more to be honest.

This movie asks for a lot from the viewer. For example, it's shot in Canada. Which looks absolutely nothing like Texas. Have these people not ever been to Texas?! Asking me to believe that they're in Texas when they're clearly in some place that looks more like Colorado is just dumb.

They tried. I'll give them that much. There was just nothing to try. This movie offers absolutely nothing new. I have no idea why it was made. Just a cheap rom com for Netflix so they have something new to waste our time with.

  • It's not THAT serious guys!

People on here are taking this movie way too seriously. It's supposed to be somewhat silly and ridiculous. Clearly, it's not real life. Comparison is also the thief of joy so maybe stop comparing it to the first one. I did see the first one but I don't remember much from it at all so this movie had to be able to stand on its own and for the most part it did. I wasn't trying to compare every little detail to the first movie and neither should you.

I loved Allison Janey's role. She's so good playing these quirky small but significant parts.

The chemistry between Anna and Blake is undeniable. They're really great together and I couldn't wait to see what happens next with them.

It's a silly fun little movie. Don't expect more from it than what it is and you won't be disappointed. It's most definitely not going to be winning any awards, that's for sure.

  • Hit and miss

I had heard of this movie many times but never actually considered watching it until last night. Very pleasantly surprised by what it delivered but also quite shocked at how "narrow" the lens was... and I mean that both literally and figuratively speaking. For example, from a purely cinematography point of view, this movie was 80% close ups and medium shots. Very few wide shots. Which gave it the feeling that almost the whole movie was shot in a studio. And it very much may have been. But because of that it definitely did not transport me "there". Figuratively speaking, it also felt very "narrow" because certain narratives just didn't make sense. Lots of holes in the plot that go by unanswered. Lots of choices that made no sense at all. The movie just expects us to "buy" all of it and just go with it. For example, the movie tells us that all of a sudden she's the most sought after geisha but we never really get to see that or how she got there. It's just expected of us to now accept that as the truth and then we move on. And then all of a sudden she's back at the same house because she has no choice?! But the other "famous" geisha can do whatever she wants and it is all tolerated? That makes zero sense to me. If she's the most famous geisha in town then shouldn't she be able to do whatever she wants too?

The world she lives in just feels very "small". 4-5 main characters and despite the fact that she goes from being no one to being someone - it's still those same people in her life. C'mon... that's not how it works. I just didn't buy it.
