I never thought that space vampires would love being naked so much. This is a very British film in every way, from the accept to the setting to the pacing. Lifeforce is incredibly reminiscent of Alien (1979) but not even close to the same level of quality but still probably the best copy. Due to all the nakedness it also reminds me of Species (1995). Both Alien and Species have better effects though and in Lifeforce they look dated but still very fun and better than modern CGI effects. I found the wide angle lens they sometimes used ugly. There was also a weird blue gradient along the bottom of any shots that use a dissolve before or after the shot. It's mostly well paced, a bit slow in places in the first half but the chaotic final act more than makes up for it. Overall it's a great and fun sci-fi film led by a beautiful naked vampire!

This film wins the award for the most expositional voice over ever and that's just at the start. In the nineties generic rubbish like this would have had a tenth of the budget and gone straight to DVD. This is the new b-movie fodder landscape: big budget forgettable fluff. Even the inclusion of indie favourite Phantasm feels like a stereotype they're forcing on us. The biggest problem is that there are no characters which makes it hard to distinguish between them. The acting is fine, it's the writing at fault. They use every stereotype ever with some level of creativity which I guess is impressive in its unoriginality. It's not all bad, once you get through the first act it does improve with some comedy and you start to accept the film for what it is but then you get lost again in the generic final act and the conclusion was a particular low-light. I actually liked the editing. The slasher kills were gory. This isn't a bad film, it's stunning in its mediocrity, it's only notable in that it is forgettable. In case I haven't hammered my grievances with this film home yet, it is unimaginative derivative drivel with a big budget which is the only thing that makes it watchable.

Sadly a lot of talent and budget is wasted on this relentlessly unimaginative slog. The editing in the flight scenes ruins what could have been good fight choreography. It's almost totally devoid of any original ideas and felt like they wanted to capitalise on the success of Train to Busan (2016) but didn't have any ideas so just made it gory. It's very gory, so much gore but with no anticipation or impact so it quickly becomes tiresome. It got a bit ridiculous when he was using his mixed martial arts on the zombies. Anyway it has high production quality but with an unengaging story and characters except maybe the boy who has a couple of ridiculous moments. I got really annoyed when they didn't explain why that one guy is invincible. I'm going to move on from this mindless rubbish devoid of personality.
