I absolutely loved this film from start to finish. It has everything a really good action film needs; a fab storyline, great actors, a lot of things blowing up and a hell of a lot of action! Face/Off has everything. However, it isn't the easiest film to explain. If you've seen it, you'll understand what I mean. Castor Troy/Sean Archer Sean Archer/Castor Troy; it gets kinda confusing, but it's so good. I thought Nic Cage was tremendous in this, doing what he does best, and I thought John Travolta was fab too. This is the only film where I've ever cried at the beginning of a film, so brace yourselves for an upsetting moment if you get to see this, which you really should. It really is a first class action film from the legend that is John Woo, and I recommend it to everybody (who's 18+ of course, lol). It's just a genuinely good film, and try to ignore the obvious stuntmen in some of the scenes; you can't expect the insurance guys to cover everything, and I doubt Nic Cage and John Travolta would have wanted to do some of them! lol.
I was initially dubious about going to see this film after I read a lot of mixed reviews. However, I am glad that I decided to just bite the bullet and go see it. This is one of the most visually stunning and entrancing films I have ever seen, with a wonderful storyline which had me clutching the edge of my seat in sheer frustration! I absolutely loved the love story that was central to the film, although I was a bit worried by the age gap. lol. It made me really want a snow cone though. I thought Zhang Ziyi was fantastic in the part of Sayuri, and she made the character very endearing and real. I am a big fan of Ken Watanabe, and it was good to see him in a part like this; the relationship was very believable and I thought they were both great. In fact, all the actors in this film did their characters justice and helped to make the film as beautiful and Oscar-worthy as it is. I just loved the story and all the sets that provided a wonderful backdrop for such an emotional, powerful tale. I recommend this to everyone! It's THAT good!
I absolutely adored this film, and it is the ultimately girly flick which every girl should watch with a big group of her friends! The characters are all so likable, and the settings are wonderful. It is an utterly charming film which you can't help falling in love with. Remarkable performances from Minnie Driver and Chris O'Donnell, and I thought Alan Cumming was great in this role, because he plays nasty so well. Overall, a very beautiful film with a very genuine, lovely story at the centre. It's great! Also, the pure irishness of it just makes you want to get on the next plane to Ireland and experience its beauty and charm first hand. The whole film is simply beautiful and the cinematography is wonderful. This is a top class piece of directing and producing, and brings to life Maeve Binchy's novel perfectly.
