After recently watching the movie Civil War by the same director, which is a complete dud, and having watched other films were he was involved, I expected the ususal overhyped nonsense.
Yet I found it rather watchable, just not very good.
The film tries very hard to both appear to be raw, and also provide a coherent storyline at the same time; a difficult balance to get right, and this film didn't.
The cast is doing a great job, the filming and basic editing is done very well.
But the movie lingers where it should get the story moving on, and the "raw" bits are too obviously drawn out in an amateurish attempt at realism.
In the end it doesn't come together as a complete film, just as a pretentious mix of styles, somewhat randomly put together by creators who lack the skills and talent for such an endeavour.

Those are only three of many things done poorly in this film.
The main character is like the annoying sidekick you see in some of the lesser TV shows, squirmy with a nasal voice and no presence whatsoever.
Which isn't helped by the actor fully embracing the mediocre role he was given, being irritatingly meaningless all the way through the movie.
The writing is incoherent and unconvincing at all times, the awkward attempts at wit and humour are unsuccessful, the storyline can only be described as a jagged succession of random scenes, roughly cobbled together.
The story itself, or whatever exists in its place - never mind, I've reached the character minimum.

Here is why I downvote many critical reviews of this film; also, netflix.
The way ratings work, it's not random, or completely subjective.
A 10/10 is one of the very best movies ever made, say top 10.
A 9/10 is one of the best movies ever made, without the word 'very', say top 100.
A 6/10 is a pretty good movie.
A 5/10 is a good movie.
A 4/10 is a decent movie, possibly re-watchable.
Now, this movie, it is not by any standard in the history of human culture a 5/10.
I would argue that it is not even close to a 4/10, as it's not re-watchable; and due to the many reasons listed by my fellow critics, a 3/10 would be flattering.
Then why on earth would anyone write a review ripping that silly film apart, and rightly so, but still give it a 5 or 6 or 7/10 rating, all of which is better than some Godfather sequels deserve?
Not a big fan of the Godfather flicks here, but you get the point.
Also, netflix.
What is displayed here is the usual approach by that film rental business - why try harder?
After all, some of the harshest critics will still rate your garbage higher than the average reality TV show.
