Slow-burn thriller. It reminds me a little bit of the movie Misery. Minus the Misery's whit and lively dialogue. It's just dark and gritty. I liked it.
It has a dark, gritty film like look, uses synth sounds to create a creepy atmosphere...I'm sure I'm not artsy enough to get all the nuances in a casual watch but all of it together kept me watching.
The cast is small, sparse dialogue but that's part of its charm. It was fun to see them show their work a little with how they obtained info. Whereas today we have hackers and the internet to get us what we need.
The villain is an odd duck and I can't quite figure out his why but this movie has a beginning, a middle, a complete and satisfying end.

Episode 1 was setting it up. The cast is being introduced. Not bad but not super compelling.
Episode 2 we were getting more info and it was definitely becoming more interesting as events begin to unfold.
Episode 3 has us hooked. More events string along to give us a little more info as to how far reaching this, if any others are affected. The idea of a good guy and bad guy are introduced.
Even my teen daughters are watching with us we try to sort out what in the world is going on.
We are huge From fans. This is not From. But it is a horror thriller mystery show. It's its own thing.
Try to get through the first 3 episodes before signing off to see if it can hook you.

First 2 seasons = great!
Third season = okay.
Last 2? End it already.
***Potential Spoilers but if you liked the first 2 seasons you might want to keep reading though. I'll finish the last couple episodes but I regret investing in this series.
Axel hooking up with Scarlett and that whole side plot. Bleh. So soapy and "insta". It was distracting at best and super annoying at worst. I wasn't a huge fan of Scarlett's. Not sure why. She seemed like a "nice girl" but I could have lived without her entire plot.
Replacing Vanessa with the angsty clueless teenagers - no. It was a completely different show on season 4 and 5. The teens, altho lovely young women, were dropped in a hijacked plot and just wander around making stupid mistakes. Jack has an "insta" crush with one of the sisterhood vampire ninjas turned human. They act like it's eternal. Again so distracting. Just like the Scaxel couple.
I don't mind romance in shows but make it make sense. Make it have value. Make it ADD depth to the story. Don't toss it in to check off some box. We can tell, writers! There were actually a couple more insta-romances that just felt like a last minute add-in but the above mentioned were overall a distraction- the others were what you expect from side characters. .
This could have been a series I'd have watched again and again except for the way season 4 and 5 completely jumped off the cliff and ditched the original show (aka first 2-3 seasons).
