Nauseating gore effects here. I'm thankful most was off screen but geez man. And I usually enjoy fake gore!
The cast was decent. Our main girls looked a little too much alike, made some shots hard to follow. The guy playing Feldspar was... something. Very well cast for the role, just not sure if his absurd style accentuated or softened the horror. Sometimes he brings the uncanniness to 110%, other times he keeps the graphic stuff from getting too heavy.
The puppets were really well designed I think. They resemble kind of sloppy and cheap sesame street puppets, which at first I thought made them feel less alive. But following the twists of the story I think it finds a nice balance between the wonderland this is supposed to be and the actual misery these puppets live in.
Love the set design, really fun stuff. The building does feel like a huge corporate office despite being only a handful of sets. Not too pandering like a lot of nostalgia horror (FNaF, Poppy Playtime etc.). This looks like a place a kid would actually enjoy.
Last complaint: the animated sequences. They were functional, but weren't that interesting to look at. I hate to say it because I know that stuff takes a crazy amount of hours.

Jesus Christ, early into this movie I jokingly called it "a Disneyfied Mad God," and I didn't know how right I would be.
I think knowing as little as possible going into this movie is probably the best way to watch it. I kept expecting the novelty to wear off, or the jokes to get stale, or the story to just sputter out. But it never stopped. The drama only got stronger, the jokes got funnier, and the twists became that much more painful.
My only complaints are that it's a little longer than I liked, and the low framerate was distracting. That being said, it is incredible that this, one of the longest stop motion movies ever made, was able to be done with just a few thousand dollars and a few months of time. All I can say is "bravo," and "more please."
A few things that amazed me: The huge cast The musical numbers The house fire The emotional charge of the violence, it is very painful.

If I had known what this movie was, I would have seen it much sooner. I know it's very early considering I just watched it, but I think this is one of the best films ever made.
What I thought was going to be a psychedelic slasher film has turned out to be a modern remix on sword and sorcery. I won't spoil any more than that. Don't expect too much substance though, this is a film of vibes and atmosphere that completely justifies itself.
For the first time in recent memory, I refused to look at the time left because I didn't want this movie to end. It's a good script and cinematic effort, elevated to greatness by Nicholas Cage's performance.
This was everything I wanted out of The Spine of Night. I liked that movie, but didn't realize how much more it could have been until I saw this.
