Going straight tot he point, I love the classics, I like Jane Austen, but the adaptation of the book to the movie was so poor that I am left famished for more. The jargons used were 20th even 21st century. It was like a Gen Z teen directed the movie. All of the actings and cinematography were top-notch, yet the operation lacked much. The shots, the visual and auditory quality were amazing, nonetheless. Such great and touching story should have been told differently, also by someone different. Dakota's character Anne was tried to feel close to the viewers but instead the direct-look into camera, narrated inner-voice, etc. Seemed childish and inappropriate to the old English style and the era the movie was taken. I don't know if the producers wanted to converse and mix the styles of the essentials of the book but it sadly fell short.
Even though it was a documentary-wise biographical, it was like a bad thriller film; a poorly executed one. The actings were weak, cinematography was cheap, music fades were unsynchronized, camera shots and angles were poor, and the story-telling wasn't good either. The real case is very fearsome and tragic, yet the movie wasn't able to show that to the audience. In my opinion the best acting was the Detective's and it was the only good one. I even caught the mom smiling in a shot where the McAllister family was arguing about Philip and Megan was crying, smh. They didn't even pay attention to the details...
