This second movie of The Old Guard is probably not as sharp and good as its predecessor. There are more talking than fighting. So as you can already guess, it's far more boring than the first one. The guest star of this second movie is Uma Thurman. I think she stole the show right from under Charlize Theron's nose. Cause even with such minimal screen time, she left a huge impact on the movie. It reminded me of Kill Bill volume 1. I don't know what the third movie will bring, but I surely hope it won't be this boring. Cause there's no significant plot twists in this one, no exciting development for any of the characters.
This horror mystery has lots of highly disturbing scenes. A grieving mother resorting to dark ritual to bring her dead daughter back to life. In order to do that, she needs a fresh cadaver of someone who died the same way as the victim did. Plus someone else who acts like a medium between the victim and the fresh cadaver. It's a pretty complicated process, which is hard to follow without a detailed explanation. And that's exactly what the audience need to do here. Gathering explanation bit by bit without clear clues. It's rather confusing in the end. Why is the medium keep attacking people? What's with the circle? What happened to Andy in the end? Too many questions popping up without being answered. And honestly, it made me unable to enjoy the horror much. Cause the terror is followed by confusion.
This comedy horror mystery thriller is combining supernatural theme with murder mystery. I think that that's the main attraction of this movie. Javier is a high school senior who's suffered bullying. After a violent one which caused him to fell down the stairs, he developed a psychic ability that makes him seeing vision randomly whenever he touched an object or being touched by someone. One day he had a vision of a bully in his school getting murdered and he made it his mission to stop the killer. That's the plot for this movie, simple, interesting and watchable. So I gave it a go, and as it turns out, it wasn't really bad, but it wasn't good either. There are some scenes that were too loud while some others were too quiet that I almost couldn't hear the dialogues. And as a murder mystery, it lacks a lot of logic. I managed to guess who the murderer correctly after the second murder. So the mystery isn't the best part of this movie. I think that the things that appealed to me in this movie are Javier-Bianca's bestie chemistry, Javier's teenage romance, and last but not least, Javier's psychic ability.
