I can't help but notice that Lost seems to be borrowing a lot of elements from Peter Benchley's short lived TV show Amazon. In Amazon a plane crashes and the survivors eventually meet up with a race of people who are the descendants of the survivor's of a centuries old shipwreck. Last week the black rock in Lost turns out to be the name of what appears to be a wrecked galleon. My guess is that "the others" Danielle is so afraid of are going to be relations of the passengers who survived on the Black Rock. Peter Benchley's work seems ripe for picking these days with the new movie Into the Blue starring Jessica Alba and Paul Walker being HEAVILY influenced by The Deep. I once worked in development and I can't tell you how many times I had to read bad scripts that were weak derivations of Jaws- Giant polar bear attacks Eskimo's in Alaska, Giant rat attacks in Central Park and my all time favorite; the giant ET-like creature who attacks Eve in the garden of Eden. Not that Lost is a weak version of Amazon, actually quite the opposite. Lost is what Amazon should have been.
