  • Fusion of Superstars: A tragedy of Lost & Found

Ishrat Mirza (played by Darpan) is a renowned lawyer known for his honesty and integrity. He successfully brings the infamous dacoit, Raja Daku (Ibrahim Nafees), to justice. However, before he can be executed, Raja Daku escapes from jail with a few of his accomplices and attacks Ishrat Mirza's home. He takes Ishrat Mirza's wife, three sons, and the housemaid hostage.

When Ishrat Mirza returns home, a confrontation ensues during which both he and his wife are killed. Two of the sons manage to escape with the maid. The dacoits pursue them, during which the eldest son gets separated from the maid. She successfully saves the youngest son, but the middle son also vanishes.

Thus, the three flowers of a once-thriving family are scattered by the storm of time, only to bloom again on the branches of fate in different parts of society. This is the story of those three flowers, told over the span of 2 hours and 38 minutes.

Calling this film a Fusion of Superstars would not be an exaggeration. In today's terms, you could compare it to a film featuring Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, and Shah Rukh Khan together. Back then, Waheed Murad, Mohammad Ali, and Nadeem Baig held similarif not greater stature, as the decline of the film industry began after their era. Nadeem still works today, but the kind of stories and dialogues we used to see in earlier films are no longer the same.

The three main characters are the three brothers, portrayed by these legendary actors, each of whom did full justice to their roles. It goes without saying that the eldest brother was played by Mohammad Ali, Waheed Murad portrayed the middle one, and the youngest son was played by Nadeem Baig.

If we talk about versatility, Waheed Murad stood out more, perhaps because his role challenged his romantic image. Naeem Mirza (Mohammad Ali) is adopted by a wealthy man, receives a top-notch education, and becomes a lawyer. Nadeem Mirza (Nadeem Baig) is raised by their maid Suraiya (Najma Mehboob) with even more care than her own children; she helps him get a great education and he eventually joins the police force. But Salim Mirza (Waheed Murad) is fated to wander he loses his identity and becomes known as "Shehzada," entering the world of smuggling. He unknowingly becomes a pawn in the political games of Raja Daku, now known as Qadir Seth the man who murdered his parents.

This role required Waheed Murad to portray a wide range of emotions, which he delivered masterfully. Even 48 years after the film's release, a modern viewer like me is left impressed. He truly shines in the film's closing scenes. Matching the emotional intensity of someone known as the Emperor of Emotions is a commendable feat.

The film's charm lies in the chemistry between the actors. It seems as though each is trying to outshine the other, which is what made the scenes between Nadeem and Waheed so enjoyable. Honestly, I used to consider Nadeem overrated, but after watching this film, I understood why he was often compared to Dilip Kumar. Not only do they resemble each other slightly, but their acting range is quite similar. Since Nadeem plays a police inspector, he had to take on several get-ups, which he handled well especially the one where he appears as an elderly Lucknowi man. It feels like Aamir Khan and Salman Khan's Nawabi looks in Andaz Apna Apna were inspired by this performance.

All the characters in the film are well written, and the pacing is strong. Ibrahim Nafees was excellent as the villain. Hearing negative Urdu dialogues in his voice was a treat. Nayyar Sultana and Darpan gave memorable performances despite their limited screen time. Ruffat Qazalbash (aka Mumtaz) was mostly eye candy, while Zeba gave a strong performance as Nailah, ably supporting her real-life husband Mohammad Ali.

The story was written by Zahida Masroor and bears a strong resemblance to Indian action-thrillers of that era. In fact, I feel it could be considered a sequel to the 1973 Indian film Yaadon Ki Baaraat. The songs and dialogues were written by Masroor Anwar, which were exceptional for their time, and the music was composed by Manzoor Ashraf.

Iqbal Akhtar's direction is quite good. However, one thing that disappointed me was the film's print quality. Only someone who saw this in a cinema can comment on how the original looked. If the print was always this poor, one wonders why that was the case especially considering that even B-grade Indian films from that era are available today in well graded color. Jab Jab Phool Khile is a historic landmark of Lollywood, it deserves better preservation.

In conclusion, I would say Jab Jab Phool Khile is truly a powerful film that beautifully captures the golden era of our cinema. Among the three actors, I found Waheed Murad's performance the most compelling. If you've seen the film, what did you think?

Waheed Murad as Shehzada / Saleem Mirza

    Nadeem Baig as Nadeem Mirza

And the Emperor of Emotions as Naeem Mirza

  • A Unique Blend of Naag Legends, Reincarnation, and Classical Melodies

The film begins in the office of a pharmaceutical company, where the characters of Dr. Anwar (played by Waheed Murad) and Dr. Khayal (played by Qavi Khan) are introduced. Both are sent by the company manager to a remote region in search of a rare herb, a place which is buried in mystery and secrets.

From the very first scene, a thrilling sensation gripped my mind. It felt as though I, Dr. Suleman, had become Waheed Murad's companion on this journey. After hours of travel, Anwar and Khayal arrive in a valley where they're received at the company's guest quarters by siblings Bindiya and Usama. Bindiya is played by Sangeeta and Usama by Saqi both deliver their parts impressively. Khayal falls in love with Bindiya, while Anwar unintentionally draws her attention. But Anwar is already under another spell, a mystical enchantment that lures him into the jungle in the final hours of the night, where he sees the Nag Mani, a serpent queen who only appears to him.

As the story progressed, I began to feel a slight drop in the thrill, mainly due to the romantic arc between Anwar and Nag Mani, which shifted the film's tone. My focus drifted slightly, and the film began to feel like a traditional Naagin (snake-woman) story.

Speaking of the story and production values, Nag Mani is a visually appealing film. Its music is deeply rooted in classical Indian traditions, and it wouldn't be wrong to say that the film revolves around Hindu rituals in which serpents are revered as deities. The film features a grand temple with a serpent idol, and Rani, who plays the serpent goddess, truly fits the divine imagery. I've seen Rekha in a similar role, but Rani brought her own unique stature to it.

One of the most interesting elements of the film is the concept of reincarnation. Since I had previously seen Karan Arjun, I was already familiar with the theme. I believe Dilip Kumar played a similar role in Madhumati, and Rajesh Khanna also portrayed such a character in Kudrat. Watching Waheed Murad in dual roles gave me a deeper appreciation of his acting calibre. Though Raj Kumar Sarjiya had a shorter role, Waheed Murad shone throughout. The film also features Talish and Masood Akhtar, who, as always, gave life to their characters.

Nag Mani could have become one of the most unique films of Waheed Murad's career, had the focus remained on suspense and thrill instead of romance. Still, Waheed Murad did complete justice to the character that was written for him. Interestingly, in 1978, this film was translated into Portuguese and screened in cinemas.

What are your thoughts on this film? Let me know. You can find Nag Mani in good print on the Famous Video YouTube channel. If you haven't seen it yet, do watch and rate it on IMDb.

  • F1: A thrilling ride of passion and redemption

    "It's not about money"!

Beyond the finish line of life, F1 explores the essence of redemption and second chances. Brad Pitt shines as Sonny Hayes, a veteran driver, driven by more than just speed & glory of the F1 world. His racing journey started with a fire of passion kindled by his father, turning him into a sensational beast and spanning over 30 years, is fueled by a deeper purpose. When recruited by former rival Ruben Cervantes (Javier Bardem), Sonny gets a chance to revive his fading dreams, which he lost after a crash on one of his racing laps, where he fractured his cervical, thoracic and lumber spine and puts him out of the F1 racing world, shackled his dreams and passion to be the No.1 in the world.

The film masterfully weaves together themes of perseverance, passion, and the pursuit of glory. With heart-pumping racing sequences and poignant character moments, F1 is an unforgettable ride.

Let's get one thing straight - this isn't a film review, so if that's what you're looking for, you're in the wrong place. This is about my connection with Brad Pitt, an actor I've been a huge fan of for years. It took me 15 long years to finally watch him on the big screen, and it was absolutely worth the wait an incredible, nail biting, and absolutely thrilling experience.

I'm not much of a cinema goer I preferred to watch films in my own mini cinema, but when a movie catches my eye and deserves the big screen, I'm always eager to jump into action. You might wonder what's taken me so long to watch William Bradley Pitt on the big screen. Well, here's the thing: when I started watching him back in August 2012 with Troy which was an old film, he was already fading into more obscure roles and Killing Them Softly was released at that time. I missed out on some of his notable films like Fury and World War Z, which I would have loved to see in theaters, but I wasn't sure about going to the cinema back then even the tickets of Bullet Train slipped through my fingers as I have planned to watch in Cue Cinema & I asked a friend to join me multiple times, but he never showed up, and the movie was pulled out after its regular screening. Despite the wait, my enthusiasm for Brad Pitt never faded as I watched him in horrendous "The Lost City", "Babylon" & "Wolfs".

When I heard about F1 in development, I was determined to watch it in the cinema, no matter what and this time, I wasn't waiting for anyone to join me. I searched online for nearby cinemas and found a suitable show at 4:30 pm at Cinepax, Amanah Mall on June 27, 2025. However, just as I was about to go, an emergency patient appointment came up, and I had to cancel my plans.

Luckily, I got another chance, and on June 28, 2025, I arrived at the cinema at 4:30 pm, buzzing with energy and enthusiasm to watch Brad Pitt. I even hoped to find posters to take a photo with, but unfortunately, there weren't any. After getting my ticket, I entered the cinema hall, ready to watch Brad in action. But what I got was so much more, I met Sunny Hayes, a veteran driver fighting to stay relevant, and his story of shattered dreams and broken ambitions left a lasting impact.

F1 has redefined Brad Pitt's legacy, touching the very core of our being, especially for those who dare to dream. I dared to dream and fallen badly and It's a poignant tale of a fading star, once radiant with promise, now teetering on the brink of extinction, a powerful metaphor for the human experience, which I experienced as well, and It's heartbreaking to let go things off your chest as now they started to burdened you but F1 is different as the film masterfully captures the essence of chasing fallen dreams, those we nurtured with loved ones who left us too soon, leaving behind unfulfilled aspirations. It's a testament to the fragility of human potential, where the whirlwind of ambition can both propel and paralyze us.

Through Sunny Hayes' story, we're reminded that life is a delicate balance of perseverance and surrender, of holding on to our passions while confronting the harsh realities of our limitations. F1 is an ode to the resilience of the human spirit, a reflection on the dreams we've lost, and the dreams we continue to chase.

F1 is a masterclass in classical filmmaking, showcasing pure cinema in every frame. Joseph Kosinski's direction is a stroke of genius, weaving thrilling racing sequences with emotional depth. Following Top Gun: Maverick, F1 solidifies Kosinski's reputation for crafting high-octane films that captivate audiences.

The film's dynamic score by Hans Zimmer is a work of art, perfectly complementing Stephen Stephen Mirrione's elegant editing and Claudio Miranda's frenetic cinematography. The music pulses through the film, immersing viewers in the heart pumping world of Formula 1 racing. As a fan, I'm already planning to watch F1 again, it's a cinematic gem that deserves repeated viewings. The film's ability to put you in the driver's seat, feeling the rush of adrenaline as you throttle through tight curves, is truly exhilarating.

Despite its predictable plot, F1 zooms by like a thunderous flash, keeping you thoroughly engaged. Sonny Hayes' journey resonates deeply, If you're a fading dreamer, and a story of testament to resilience and passion. As he rises from the ashes, driven by love and determination, it's impossible not to be moved. In the penultimate scenes, I found myself wanting to cheer and give a standing ovation, swept up in Sonny's triumphant moment, shed some tears with him though the audience around me remained stoic, I appreciated the immersive experience, letting the story's emotional impact speak for itself.

As summer unfolds in Pakistan, I highly recommend watching F1 in cinemas near you. This film is a masterful storytelling experience that explores the dynamics of passion, love, and ambition.

It's a great opportunity to take your kids and have a meaningful conversation about what truly matters in life. In a world where fame and fortune often take center stage, F1 reminds us that passion and love are the driving forces that bring fulfillment. Sometimes, it's better to tune out the noise and focus on what truly matters.
