Sorry, but this is such a poor copy of Buffy "Once More With Feeling" from 20 years ago. Only the brilliance of the Buffy episode was that it wasn't just a gimmick - it actually moved the story along and contained some important revelations.
First they blatantly copy the Alien franchise for the Gorn, and now this poor imitation of Buffy. I actually love this show, so it makes these lazy rip-offs even more frustrating.
I couldn't even finish watching this one, not because it was poorly done but because of how tragically unoriginal it was. If you had never watched Buffy you would probably think this was fun and clever.

The highlight of this show is the casting. They absolutely nailed the main characters, with Spock and Chapel the standout performances. I'm not a *huge* Trek fan. I have a love/hate relationship with the franchise. I can safely say this is my favorite Trek show since TNG.
In fact, there's only one thing stopping this show from being one of my favorite shows (not just Trek) of all time. The Gorn. I don't know what went on in the meeting room when they decided on blatantly ripping off another franchise and making it the main villain for the whole series, but somebody needed to slap some sense into them. It is incomprehensible on every level. Such a shame, and the show deserved better.

Look, I have no problem with an Alien inspired episode. As a standalone story it was OK, and a fun little tribute to the greatest space/horror movie ever made.
But to have this be the big recurring enemy for the whole show? That's pretty incomprehensible and has really knocked my enjoyment of this series moving forward. That's it? The best they could do?
The Borg. That was a "big bad" worthy of building seasons and movies around. Sinister *and* original.
This? This is just weird. Why make this choice? Star Trek is supposed to influence pop culture, not just copy what came before. Being SELF-referrential is fine and works really well in this type of show. But blatantly ripping off a whole other franchise for your main bad guys is just bizarre. I seriously don't understand the thinking. And I'm extra salty about it.
