This here is one of the best new sci-fi anime. I've been impressed with the trailers before it's launch and I'm even more impressed now that I've finished watching all the episodes.
We rarely get pure sci-fi anime, it's usually mostly fantasy. This alone is exciting. The animation is clean, sharp, detailed and second to none. The visuals are breathtaking and the cast of characters is enjoyable to follow and share moments with.
Characters are well developed and look very detailed. The environments are also captivating and well designed. The orchestral soundtrack fits the scenario and gives an uplifting and dreamlike tone to it all. As for the story, it's actually quite complex, but it's a bit confusing and it gets complicated unless you are willing to give it time and follow it closely.
It's a slow burner. It's meant to be savoured bit by bit, you need to stop and reflect on what you see, hear and feel. Moonrise is not meant to be binged, you need to give it time to grow and watch a few episodes per day. If you watch it all in a flash, you'll be left disappointed. All characters have their own story and background. And to a degree, they all evolve and change with time.
They have their own motivations, ambitions and goals. Just take your time with this one. It's a fantastic journey and a solid sci-fi show!

This is no reinterpretation, as barely any of the source material is used. This is a complete misinterpretation of some wonderful tales filled with morals. This version is stripped of the moral part, perverted and filled with grotesque and gratuitous horror (viewers beware, it's extremely visceral). I love anime but this one is just wrong and disrespectful.
If you don't understand one's culture, literature, or what made the stories fascinating, don't just go and make your own twisted version. Sure, the animation is good, the music fits nicely, but everything else feels wrong, vague and lacking substance.

I hope nobody is actually looking for a deep, thought provoking, brainy movie, because this is not why you go to see a Godzilla film! It's pure popcorn entertainment, full of explosive action, titans fighting and wrecking everything around them without a care in the world. The effects are good, battles are entertaining and they keep the monkey brain in a state of total joy throughout the less than two hours duration! Yes, this one doesn't suck 3 or 4 hours of your life and doesn't waste your time. That alone is worth paying for the ticket, haha. Nerds will enjoy it, kids will be in awe and your inner monkey will be satisfied. Grab some popcorn, a cold beer, and have fun!
