I have so much to say about this long awaited sequel to the classic golf comedy from 1996. I wore that VHS tape out as a kid. I couldn't get enough of it. Suffice to say, a lot of people have been waiting for this sequel. Most of us never thought it would happen. Let's get this party started.
First of all, the cameos are everywhere. Stephen A Smith was a nice touch, as someone who has always watched First Take and sometimes his podcast. The nostalgia is all over the place. There are so many old scenes they reused throughout the film and there are constant references. Yes, it feels tacky, but it's Happy Gilmore we're talking about. I'm not going to hate on it too much. It just does it to remind us of how funny and legendary some of those scenes were.
They brought back so many of the old actors, like Ben Stiller, Kevin Nealon, Steve Buscemi and so many more. So many memories came flooding back and it was a great feeling! Haley Joel Osment is here as a new threat to Happy as he tries to get his game back. Never thought I'd see Sora from Kingdom Hearts play golf against Happy. That was definitely not on my bingo card. But I'm here for it since I love them both. We can't forget the return of Shooter McGavin, who is as funny as ever.
There are a lot of celebrity cameos and they're hit or miss. Post Malone, Guy Fieri, Travis Kelce and tons more. There are pro golfers that play big roles as well. It's hard to fathom how big this cast is. It feels cheap and silly at times, but that's to be expected. We also get all of Sandler's friends popping up from time to time, like Schneider and Swardson. That tradition will never go away.
As a Boston Bruins fan, this movie was a dream for me. Bruins logos, shirts, hats and references everywhere! They really took that to the next level. They make it known that Happy and kids are massive Boston fans.
The comedy is definitely here. Some of it works, some of it doesn't. They tend to use nostalgia a lot with all the callbacks and "repeats" of jokes from the original film. There's a lack of originality, for sure. But it does have some genuinely funny moments. The story is just a continuation from the previous film, while also filling in the gaps, letting us know what happened during all the years since then.
In the end, Happy Gilmore 2 is a nostalgia trip, one that is so powerful, that at times you may get emotional if you are a huge fan of the original. But if you never saw it or have no connection to it, this may all seem a bit silly and childish. It's not a great movie, we all know this. But it's a worthwhile sequel to give us a trip down memory lane, while also giving us a laugh here and there. I'm glad we actually got a sequel, that's all I can ask for at this point.

While I respect the ambition of this film, it feels like a poor man's version of a Black Mirror episode. Some of it feels a little forced. But the performances are solid and it has some nice special effects moments that add a nice touch. I've seen this type of movie before, so it's nothing new. There are still some exciting moments that give it a boost, making it a worthwhile watch, despite the issues. I just wish it did something to differentiate itself from similar movies and shows in the genre. The blood and little bit of gore only goes so far and for many it can even be a turn off. I expected bit more to be honest.
Heads of State is an action-comedy released on Prime, starring Cena as the US President and Elba as the Prime Minister. They embark on a journey when their plane crashes and everyone thinks they're dead. They have great chemistry and bounce off one another well. They carry the film for the most part.
The story isn't anything special and some of the dialogue is ridiculous. The action is fun and feels like a true summer blockbuster, but some of the action is also ridiculous. The CGI looks kind of fake in some parts. But we all know what we're getting here.
I enjoyed this one for what it was, but my expectations stayed quite low. It was funny and action-packed, but I doubt I'd ever see it again. I grew up watching Cena in WWE so I tend to watch all of his films. Give it a shot if you want something lighthearted.
