"Family Guy" spotlights the life of a Rhode Island family, the Griffins. Peter is a fat, stupid husband to Lois, who is smart and surprisingly tolerates Peter despite the various antics he does. They have three kids, angst-ridden Meg, dim-witted Chris, and Stewie, an intelligent baby with a demented plan of dominating the world (and killing Lois). Topping off the family is Brian, a talking dog who is somewhat the most normal one in the family.
The early seasons of "Family Guy" were very funny, with random gags and some envelope-pushing humor along a good storyline. Now, the reason why I say the show is the most uneven comedy on TV because after it has returned to TV, it's very hit-or-miss. Story lines were kicked to the curb in place of pop-culture references and long jokes. There's nothing wrong with a comedy that's completely random, but it has to be funny all the way, or at least most of the time.
The long jokes are mostly annoying, ruining the punchline by making it go on and on. If I was running the show, I'd fire the editor.
The pop-culture references swing wildly between a funny joke or just a reference, which is unnecessary. Also, at times the show tries too hard to be offensive.
The recent season so far is mostly funny, so I'm not complaining. However, Seth MacFarlane and his crew needs to let the funny outweigh the unfunny.
