I am sure Hilary Swank's agent told her back in 1993. Make this movie and you will be a star.

The Next Karate Kid flopped hard and Swank should had disappeared off the map.

A dozen years later and Swank was a two time Oscar winning actress.

It is the only notable thing about this movie.

The plot is lousy. My Miyagi trains a sullen teenager, the granddaughter of an old army buddy.

Julie Pierce (Hilary Swank) has recently lost both her parents. She goes to a school where the boys of the fraternity, the Alpha Elite abuse their position. They lie, cheat, one of them makes unwanted sexual advances towards Julie.

Colonel Dugan (Michael Ironside) has no problems with the misbehaviour of the fraternity. He has issues with Julie though.

A paper thin story, two dimensional villains, very little karate. It failed to kickstart the franchise. It was a cynical exercise.

Thank goodness Cobra Kai came along on streaming television many years later.

Holy matador. Batman and Robin survive the cattle stampede.

Batcillin lozenge is used when Robin is injured.

That annoying little kid is still in Shame's movie set hideout crying out for Shame, repeatedly.

As for the plot. Shame has finished his special vehicle made out of stolen parts.

Now he is out to steal some prize cattle. Just what kind of a cowboy plan is that!

Cliff Robertson is a straight shooter as Shame. Evidently enjoying himself with all the western cliches. Despite the batty story.

Laughing Leo from the Used Car Lot is slimy and fun. He comes out with the quip, 'You won't hit a guy with glasses.' Even though he is not wearing them. Jack Nicholson's Joker will use the same gag in Batman (1989.)

Oliver Twist soon ends up in court and the judge is in no mood to dispense mercy or justice.

Kindly Mr Brownlow realises that Oliver is poorly and close to collapse. The judge is not interested in Mr Brownlow's plea for mercy. At one point the judge thinks Mr Brownlow is the accused.

Oliver gives a false name and then collapses. The judge thinks it is all a sham.

He is saved at the last witness by a witness who tells the judge that another boy was the thief.

Now Oliver is convalescing with Mr Brownlow.

However Fagin thinks the boy will grass him up and Bill Sikes make an appearance. They want to track down Oliver Twist.

For the first time in his life, Oliver experiences kindness but it could be shortlived.

Once again it is faithful to the novel and rather fast moving. It takes a dim view of the Victorian justice system. Michael Attwell makes his appearance as the brutish Sikes.
