On the main page the link to the video clip at the Leeds University website, I believe is a clip of the Traffic Crossing Leeds Bridge film, although, sadly, the website does not make this clear.
To be able to see people from nearly 120 years ago, walking and moving is quite incredible, like a window into a different age. The movement of the carriages, horses and people makes history come alive. I feel privileged to have seen it.
Take a look, this is one of the oldest moving images you are ever likely to see.
I am surprised there are no more significant links to this entry and the Roundhay film on IMDb. I think it is something to be celebrated.

I quote from the plot summary for The English Patient: "Beginning in the 1930's, "The English Patient" tells the story of Count Almasy who is a Hungarian map maker employed by the Royal Geographical Society to chart the vast expanses of the Sahara Desert"
The maps play a pivotal part in the plot. I won't mention what it is here for fear of spoiling the film for those that have not seen it.
As I mentioned in an earlier review I believe that mapping the Sahara is not a good start for a storyline. Don't be misled by reviews which suggest the character is not mapping the Sahara.
There seems to be a sense of superiority present on the comments and message boards about the film. I think it is important to consider the comments about the film, see the movie and decide for yourself, rather than get too hung up on the comments about other comments. If you watch the movie I hope you enjoy it but it's OK not to like it too.

I have not watched this movie for some time now, but it is one of those films that always reveals more on each viewing. It is quite a clever study of Ned Merrill, the world he lives in and the people he associates with. Each encounter reveals a little more about Ned.
Nothing, however allows one to expect the ending (I will not mention it here for fear of spoiling it for someone who has not yet seen it).
I love the way the film finally cuts through the meaninglessness of the life Ned has known in the past. For me the film gave a message about there being more important things in life than swimming pools and status.
Burt Lancaster gives a fabulous performance, as he does in all his appearances.
