Gay filmmaker, William Branden Blinn, created nine unrelated stories about gay men, their fantasies, curiosities and such, as well as their connection to their hetero counterparts. Some of the stories are better than others. However, to this viewer, most are fantasies that have played out over and over in Blinn's mind. One in particular centers around a three way, where an older man brings home a younger gay ? Guy to share with his wife. In the process, the visitor, in his 20s, is 'heterosexualized' as he enjoys both husband and wife, in their 50s. Another similar story deals with a husband and wife trying bisexuality with the husband's secret lover. The subject of bisexuality is a common theme throughout this collection. As Carrie Bradshaw said in 'Sex and the City', bisexuality is a just a stopover to gay town. Personally, I'm not a big believer in it, especially among men. Having said this, I was mildly entertained by this film, but in the end (no pun intended), it was more a yawn fest than a triumph. I wish Mr Blinn had created a picture that was more LGBTQ+ affirming than this one is. He needs better fantasies.
This very unfunny, 97 minute film is not worth anyone's time. The sad thing is that Cedric, the Entertainer and Vanessa Williams actually signed up to be in this piece of Cali junk. Did they need the money that badly? The film follows the cross country antics of the Cali based Johnson family as they set out to explore the country in their vehicle. The usual things that happen during their excursion were much better handled by the Griswolds (National Lampoon Vacation) some 15 years earlier. This film tries to replicate some of those adventures but the writing (Todd R. Jones and Earl Richey Jones) doesn't even come close to capturing the full comic range of the earlier picture. Christopher Erskin's direction does little to save this unoriginal cinematic effort. My advice to the Johnsons- stay home next year and vacation in your yard and pool. Maybe it will be funnier.
I'm not sure what Philipp Karner had in mind when he wrote and directed this piece of Cali cookie cutter crap, but we, the viewers are the ones who have to live the consequences of this 90 minute mediocrity. In someone else's hands, this could have and should have been far better.
Karner and Denver Milord play two gay men who can't seem to make things work. The usual suspects are at play, shame, family acceptance, identity confusion and health. They seem to undermine what might be an ideal relationship between two very different gay men. The film evolves into superficial nonsense. I for one didn't care if they ultimately succeeded or not. Milord's character was the far more sympathetic of the two. He deserved better. Maybe if Karner were more talented a writer and didn't 'Californiaize' this story, we might have had a more positive and powerful LGBTQ+ affirming film. This gets a 'DWYT' rating, 'Don't Waste Your Time'.
