Wow, does this film bring back those early pandemic-lockdown memories. The whole look and feel of the film, especially in its stillness, echoes that strange time. And with its two leads being service industry workers, indefinitely on a COVID hiatus, our hearts can't help but go out to them. Thanks to their very real, lived-in performances - and the terrific writing and directing (and producing and editing) of Robert James - we are with these characters and the movie every step of the way. It takes a lot of innovation to survive a pandemic-economy, and this story brings that all to live in truly interesting ways. According to IMDb, this was movie was amazingly shot for only 12,000 dollars! But you would never know it to look at. Good acting, well shot, 15 Days is nothing short of an ultra-low-budget miracle! I thoroughly recommend this movie.
A magical, Alice in Wonderland like LGBTQ rom-com, "A Moment for Love" is pure joy! A wonderfully made film with a terrific cast, it features Bobby Love playing a version of himself to delightful effect. His presence is part of the film's charm, and the footage of his spectacular runway shows are really out of this world. They're worth the rental cost alone - and that's only the tip of the magical iceberg here. The movie is filled with camp-fun, with the more serious moments bathed in an eventual love and warmth that make the film shine. It's ultimately a feel good movie with a very big, beating heart at its center. Exactly what is needed for our very difficult times. I can wholeheartedly recommend this indie gem!
Most romance movies follow a familiar arc. Two people meet, like each other. Have some very manageable problems that are blow up for dramatic effect. And in very predictable fashion, they end up in love. There's nothing wrong with this formula. It works in rom-coms, in Hallmark movies. But it's at best, a little bland. At worst, it's boring as hell.
Maybe Forever eschews this tradition for a more unconventional, poetic approach to a love story. Two characters, very clearly in love at the outset, look back on their first date. A day filled less with high drama and more with the poetry of two souls finding beauty in each other and life. In that way it's a very simple film. And yet, it's quite profound. In our daily haste, we so often forget that some of life's greatest treasures are very moving and yet, very simple. I was transfixed by these two characters falling for each other, in soothing, soul-connecting harmonies of bliss.
I couldn't help but notice that the co-writers, directors and stars of the film have the same last name. So one assumes, they are a married couple who made this movie together. Which begs the question, was this a depiction of their actual first date? Or did they compress their falling in love into one poetic day to tell their beautiful story? Either way, this is a love story unlike any you have exactly seen before. Well shot and performed, and obviously made with the deepest of affection.
