As another reviewer said, not a remake but more of a re-imagining. It's not really a bad movie, but it falls short as a really good zombie movie. The make-up and special are good at times, but some times it's really bad.
One thing that bothered me was when some turned into a zombie, it was seemed like they were dead for weeks in a span of a few moments.
It's almost like they took the idea of the recent Dawn of the Dead remake, with the way the zombies move, and expanded on it.
If you look at it as just a zombie movie instead of a "remake" it's actually a pretty good movie.

It seems like the writer is a big fan of horror movies with the countless references to many horror classics. I don't think that the actors are the problem of this film, but more so the dialogue. Some of the actors are actually really good, but not in this film, a lot of the dialogue just makes them sound stupid. The writing is really horrible in this. There is no investment in the characters, you don't really care about any of them.
It seems to me that this film is trying to be a homage to horror films, but instead looks like film saying "Hey, look at me, I like horror films." This isn't just a bad horror movie, it's a bad attempt at a horror movie.

I think I may have watched this when I was a child, but apparently it made no impression on me. I recently read the book, so I decided to watch the movie, hoping it was just as good.
I was wrong.
As a stand alone film, I imagine it's great, but with what the book put into my head it was really hard to not turn it off after the first 20 minutes. The story is almost completely different aside from the character names (Richards and Killian) and the fact that it's a futuristic television show. Everything else was pretty much made up by De Souza.
Not one of Schwarzenegger's best films, but somewhat entertaining, even through his dry performance. The highlight was Richard Dawson (of Family Feud fame). He played Killian perfectly.
I felt the story lacked what the book had. I didn't really care if Richards (Schwarzenegger) lived or died. Any of the characters really. I would say watch to movie, so you can say you've seen it. But read the book none-the-less.
