Valutazione di cglamb-1
The subject of this movie is very rare to see in screen. It's sort of a coming of age story, but it's about a woman about 30 who is still trying to find her place in the world. This is the case for so many people, and it is very normal and totally fine, but in most (Hollywood) movies she'd be played as a comical loser or someone with horrible trauma. I loved how this film just showed a smart person who is able to keep herself open to finding her path. So many people that age feel pressured to settle or pretend to fit an idea of who they think they should be. People hurt and get hurt on the way because that's life, and this film accepts that with compassion for the characters.
It does lose some steam towards the end, slipping into melodrama and with some dicey references to #MeToo that reminded me that this film was written and directed by men, and it is presenting a male idea of a woman. It is ultimately clear that this character is being defined by the absence or presence of men, which limits her world. (She doesn't have a single friend and doesn't confide in her mom or anyone else.) Nonetheless, the movie reminded me of Funny Ha-Ha in the best way by acknowledging the emotional world of not so young adults who follow an unconventional and winding path.
