Something odd is clearly going on. Touch is an utterly superb, beautifully made film, which stands out on another level to anything else my wife and I have seen for years. It is a jewel of a film deserving the widest of audiences. Yet it has simply disappeared without trace from London cinemas. What on earth is going on? I am beginning to strongly suspect that (horror of horrors) an American remake is being produced, and it suits certain interests for the original film to have quietly disappeared from the public radar!! Or is it in the sights of big streaming platforms who would be happy to see the shortest cinema run possible. All I can say is that this is a truly remarkable film, and I mean this original Icelandic film, which was a magnificent watch in cinema - I only wish a much wider audience was getting the chance to see it. Congratulations to Baltasar Kormakur. All the superlatives are deserved - a magnificent film!
Really wanted this to be much better than it has turned out to be so far. Undoubtedly timely and relevant subject matter, but consistently lacks the incisive quality of the W1A writing and fails to deliver its sheer funniness. That is through no fault of Hugh B, who is as engaging and amusing as ever. The supporting characters which provided most of the laughs in the earlier BBC show are however sadly missed - although the Douglas Cancelled supporting cast are undoubtedly high quality actors. As I watch remaining episodes I shall be hoping to become more engaged, and amused. But so far predominant reaction is disappointment.
We were not expecting much new, having previously seen a number of dramas based on the Magdalen scandal. But this drama series absolutely gripped from the start, all the leading acting roles brilliant, and we all know the unique qualities to expect from Ruth Wilson. But Daryl McCormack was so utterly convincing and natural here in the role of the detective, and immensely likeable and sympathetic. Hadn't seen his work before, but both my wife and I hope to see lots more of him soon. Casting was excellent throughout, and the atmosphere of foreboding around Lorna's house (and wall) develops perfectly. This series deserves awards all round. Stunning.
