What talent, what brilliance! And of course, I'm not talking about Fedja van Huet now. We already knew he's one of the most talented actors in Holland. I'm talking about the brilliant and beautiful leading actress Maria Kraakman, who does everything right in this film. But most of all I'm talking about Nanouk Leopold, an amazingly talented filmmaker who wrote an impeccable script and did everything right in directing the film. Every shot is exactly right, its length, its point of view, its framing, the sound, or the lack of it. The most beautiful film about silence, about not speaking, that I have ever seen. Every scene can be interpreted in different ways, is full of tender nuance without getting boring a single moment. A highlight in Dutch film history, maybe the best Dutch picture ever made.

I cannot believe the 6.5. I know film has to do with taste, but I always kinda hope that there are masterpieces on whose brilliance everyone in the world agrees - some sort of Platonic work of art that has the mercy of the gods. This 6.5 proves that there are no such things.

As for my personal opinion, Francois Ozon once again proves to be one of the most gifted film makers alive. Like before, his latest film 5x2 shows an astonishing eye for detail and an insurpassable sense of style. I will not bore anyone with a summary of the story. True cinema needs to be seen and can only be put into words while missing all the things that make it a masterpiece. Ozon is a see-er, a visionary, and 5x2 shows us all the beautiful sad things he sees.

A brilliant, apocalyptic view of the future, driven by nice, tight plot line. Ralph Fiennes is excellent. James Cameron deftly combines beauty, intelligence and action in this dark, but finally hopeful sci-fi thriller. It must be the commercial image (true Lies, Titanic etc.) of this skilled new Spielberg, otherwise I cannot explain why this film has not received the praise that it deserves as being one of the most exciting thrillers of the 1990's.
