There is a rich family in Los Angeles. The father is a whip cracker and 2 sons are troublemakers. Then, there's the son in law, who cheats on the old man's daughter. One fateful day, the son in law accidentally kills a man walking on the side of the road. But, rather than face the police, he drives off and hides the car. Then, he hires Paul Drake to deliver a lump sum of money to the widow, telling Drake a false story. Later, Drake realizes he's been used and goes to confront the bad son. But, someone knocks Paul out and while unconscious, the Son in law is murdered. Now, Paul is charged with murder and Perry rushes to defend him. What can be better than having Mason as your lawyer? This episode is one of the better ones of am outstanding show. Having Paul as the defendant in a murder case is a deft touch while the supporting cast is wonderful. Look for it.

Beth - Jessica Lange - is the wife of a building contractor. The family lives in a nice house in small town Maryland, with two sons. Chris is 16 and Matt is 9. One day, their world implodes. The father is killed at a construction site. Moreover, he leaves the family in debt to the tune of $60,000. There is not much life insurance, either. Although Beth gets a job cashiering, it soon becomes obvious they can't stay in their home. Therefore, Beth sells the home and moves her family to an apartment in Baltimore. Neither boy is happy. Matt can't express his grief while he hooks up with a friend who steals VCRs, engaging Matt. Then, Chris has his first love affair with a 20-something lady in the building. Aa for Beth, she finds a job while attracting the attention of a musician. She is absolutely not prepared for what lies ahead. This film isn't perfect but Lange gives a fine performance, well supported by Chris O' Donnell, Kathy Bates, and Joan Cusack. It is very adept at navigating grief loss and starting over. It is well worth a whirl.

In a Britain restored castle turned retirement home, four of the seniors like keeping their minds active. They enjoy learning about local cold case crimes and trying to solve them. However, while they study a new one, word arrives that the owners of the home might evict them all in favor of razing the structure for higher priced housing. The foursome will fight this idea. Then, a murder takes place under their noses. Knowing a female police officer, they try to join forces with her to help find a killer. There are plenty of possible suspects. Are the seniors' lives in danger? This film, the beginning of a series?, has 4 wonderful stars : Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, Ben Kingsley and Celia Imrie. Each of them delights in different ways. The story, sets, and supporting cast are fine as well. Most everyone will enjoy this wonderful flick.
