Not sure why this gets so many negative reviews. It's a light and enjoyable romance film, perfect for an evening in. Sure it's stereotypical and we all know how the movie is going to end but that's why we love these movies. I cried when the characters cried and laughed when they laughed. There is sin, loss, love, and redemption. It's like Pride and Prejudice with both characters judging each other and then realizing they were wrong. Not to mention,Sofia Carson is so talented, she wrote and performed all the songs! She tells the story through her music. I'd watch this again anytime with some friends and a cup of cocoa.

I had been interested in the story of Maudie ever since I heard her story. This is the story of an artist, and about what made her creativity break forth and flower, which I think many women (including myself) will find uncomfortable. We imagine women marrying perfect men, enjoying perfect health, and living with wealth and recongition. But this very imperfect woman found an imperfect man, had debilitating health, and lived in poverty and simplicity all her life. Yet it was precisely those conditions that she took advantage of, and was even grateful for, to be someone extraordinary. None of us can judge that it should have been otherwise. No matter how much it disturbs us, there is incredible magic in this film and Maudie died a fulfilled woman who leaves us a lesson about what it means to be happy.
