Very much enjoyed this movie. Contrary to other reviewers I found the writing to be excellent as well as the Cinematography & the acting.
The question is whether there is very much of a there there, and I think there is.
Our main character, A professional Anti- spiritualist, is absolutely convinced there cannot be such a thing as a mongoose that talks. The community of the Isle of Man is pretty much convinced, which drives our lead character nuts.
I won't get into the conclusion or spoil the ending, but the main point of this well-made little movie - very quirky little movie - is that it is a mistake to be certain about things you have no business being certain about and this is something of real interest to me who went about the first almost 65 years of his life being convinced that he knew stuff that he had no business thinking that he knew. For example, which people met the test of being a valuable good person and which ones did not.
It was a great relief to realize none of us is smart enough to judge other people other than whether they want them over for dinner or whether they committed a felony that should put them in jail for a while.
Judgments of character are tricky. I don't recommend them.

I would be a little traumatized by the poor reception of Bone Tomahawk, a rather amazing movie. The screenplay in this thing is just golden. Netflixers rate it at 7.1, and to my somewhat trained eye, this movie is 8+.
Jeeze, the screenplay alone. Plus the direction and the action is excellent. Cinematography! Great to see Kurt Russell back in action in a great little role.
I gave it a nine in a futile attempt to balance out whatever it was that made people not see this highly cool movie.
It just requires a little stretch of the imagination to turn a western white man's enemy, the Indians, into troglodytes, literally cave dwellers who have unusual powers live 200 miles to the north of an Old West that never existed.

Seems the few people who have reviewed this film didn't understand what they were watching and instead anticipated an actor adventure film.
If you are interested in the history of Western civilization, then you will probably really like this documentary. It's full of interesting new information, particularly about the "Sea People" who have been blamed for an incredibly widespread civilization collapse toward the end of the bronze age in 1200 BC.
This extremely well-made documentary includes a very different interpretation of the events around the year 1200 BC and takes you from Egypt to Crete Anatolia and Keenan to give us a new eye and a new interpretation on this catastrophic ending of the civilization primarily but many other civilizations as well
